Role Overview
The Group MLRO will play a critical role within the Risk & Compliance Team, responsible for managing compliance, therefore overseeing internal AML/CFT compliance projects, and ensuring the proper reporting of suspicious transactions. The position involves managing compliance risks across the Group's entities, providing guidance on financial crime compliance, and reporting directly to the Managing Partner. This role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to maintain high compliance standards within a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting Suspicious Transactions: Ensuring all suspicious transactions and activities are promptly reported to the relevant authorities.
- Periodical Reporting: Submitting regular reports to the FIAU and MFSA in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Compliance Support: Providing guidance and assistance to the Compliance Officers within the Group's entities to ensure alignment with AML/CFT regulations.
- Financial Crime Compliance: Coordinating all matters related to AML/CFT, sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption across the Group.
- Risk Assessment: Assessing financial crime risk at both the Group level and within individual entities, carrying out de-risking exercises where necessary.
- Monitoring Compliance: Regularly reviewing internal processes to ensure the effectiveness of compliance procedures, including spot-checks on due diligence activities.
- Policy Management: Drafting and maintaining up-to-date AML/CFT policies and procedures across the Group.
- System Development: Establishing communication systems for regular updates and ensuring the smooth operation of compliance processes.
- Software Implementation: Managing the implementation and migration of compliance software solutions.
- Training and Development: Delivering AML/CFT training programmes to client-facing staff, ensuring they are informed of the latest compliance developments.
- Advisory Role: Acting as a point of reference for ensuring compliance with AML/CFT and other regulations within Group entities classified as Subject Persons.
- Customer Risk Insights: Providing Directors with critical information regarding customer risk, aiding in the onboarding or exit of clients.
- Industry Knowledge: Keeping up to date with the latest financial crime trends and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in an AML/CFT role, with at least 2 years in a managerial position.
- Language Skills: Excellent command of English is required to succeed in this role. The ability to communicate in Maltese would be an asset.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure clear guidance and reporting.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative compliance culture.
- Technical Skills: Extensive knowledge of AML/CFT laws, regulations, and guidelines, with the ability to identify gaps and implement solutions.
- Organisation: Strong organisational skills, with a proactive approach to managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Self-Motivated: A self-driven professional with the initiative to uphold and elevate compliance standards across the Group.
- Problem-Solving: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in addressing compliance risks.
