Role Overview
The Junior Accountant role involves providing accounting and supervisory support to the Director of Finance, ensuring the seamless operation of hotel accounting functions. The Junior Accountant will manage financial reporting, develop centralised accounting systems, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and verify monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- System Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the accounting software, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and efficiently.
- Budget Monitoring: Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor expenditures to ensure adherence to financial targets.
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with local regulations and addressing any inquiries from tax authorities.
- Payroll Management: Supervise payroll processing, ensuring timely and accurate salary disbursements while maintaining employee records.
- Vendor Relations: Manage vendor accounts and ensure timely processing of invoices and payments.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and prepare forecasts to ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
- Audit Coordination: Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process, providing necessary documentation and information.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop junior finance staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Experience: Relevant experience in a finance role, ideally within the hospitality sector or a related industry.
- Educational Background: Hold an MQF Level 6 qualification in Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or be in the final stages of ACCA certification.
- Language Proficiency: A strong command of English is essential, while knowledge of Maltese is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional communication abilities to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Sage Evolution and Excel, along with strong analytical skills.
- Organisational Skills: Highly organised with the capability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Self-Motivated: A proactive individual with a robust work ethic and ambition to excel.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Skilled in identifying challenges and implementing effective solutions.
