Role Overview

The Assistant Manager - Accounting, under the guidance of the Manager, plays a pivotal role in overseeing our Client's accounting department. This challenging position requires a driven and ambitious individual committed to delivering a high-quality customer experience to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Department Oversight: Ensure accurate and timely completion of major projects within the Accounting department.
  • Task and Project Management: Plan, prioritise, and resource daily tasks and projects for successful completion.
  • Client Relationships: Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, managing expectations and meeting deadlines.
  • Team Development: Develop staff through performance management, goal-setting, training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Professional Development: Assist in formulating professional development and educational plans for staff members.
  • Training: Provide technical training to junior staff members.
  • Methodology and Policies: Establish and enforce proper Accounting and Tax methodology, policies, and principles.
  • Process Improvement: Assist the Manager in identifying workflow inefficiencies and implementing new processes for timely and accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications & Attributes

  • Experience: At least 4 years experience in a client accounting role.
  • Education: University degree at masters level in Accounting, ACA or ACCA qualified.
  • Team Management: Capable of managing a team, inspiring, mentoring, and supervising team members to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work with a team and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAPSME reporting standards, Income Tax Act, and Value Added Tax Act.
  • Software Proficiency: Conversant with standard software packages, proficient in MS Excel, and ready to learn company-specific software if required.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ethical Standards: Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritise effectively, and deliver within tight time frames.
  • Asset Knowledge: Knowledge in taxation and/or liquidations is considered an asset.
