About the opportunity:
Currently clinic is scheduled for 3 days per week and endoscopy for 2 days per week in addition to on-call responsibilities
Expectations seem to be around 10-12 procedures on endoscopy days, and 10-12 clinic patients per clinic day. Additional inpatient consults or procedures are in addition to these numbers.
On call if for the ER, family medicine residency and does include inpatient consults and coverage (ie rounding). Additional consults or clinical questions arise and must be addressed from fleet, general medical officers or even Cuba.
Treat patients that have medical problems characteristic of Gastroenterology including complex cases where symptoms are difficult to identify, treatment regimens involving the use of prolonged or complicated procedures or new techniques, and/or where patients condition fails to respond to previously tried treatments.
Serve as a consultant for physicians in this discipline and other specialties.
Services include, but are not limited to, patient examination, determination of the need for laboratory, radiology, or other specialized evaluations, interpretations of complex tests and examination findings, sequential and skillful interpretation of diagnostic findings and application of that information towards multistep treatment plans, and consideration of the necessity for additional referrals and consultations.
Follow progress of case and modified course of treatment as necessary to achieve desired outcome.
Provide comprehensive consultations, diagnoses, and treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatic, pancreaticcobiliary and nutritional diseases.
- Perform a full range of gastroenterology procedures including:
Colonoscopy, including biopsy and polypectomy
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic
Dilation procedures in esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and colon
Esophageal stent placement, if qualified
Flexible sigmoidoscopy
Intravenous conscious sedation
Nonvariceal hemostasis
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
Percutaneous liver biopsy
Diagnostic and Therapeutic ERCP, if qualified
Diagnostic and Therapeutic EUS, if qualified
Enteroscopy, if qualified
Exercise admitting privileges for patients requiring inpatient care and/or observation, writes and/or reviews initial orders and prepares and/or reviews notes that include the patients chief complaint, history, physical examination, laboratory data, assessment and plan, both diagnostic and therapeutic.
Perform follow-up examination of patient and prepares or assists as required in the preparation of daily progress notes.
Review and co-sign house-staff documentation and orders.
As a member of the Gastroenterology specialty service, provides adept and experienced consultation using electronic tools and technologies to acquire patient information.
Perform gastroenterology medicine procedures compatible with the medical facilitys operating capacity and equipment. The physician shall not introduce new medical procedures or services without prior coordination with the Gastroenterology Department Chair, and approval of the Director for Medical Services, NH-JACKSONVILLE.
Review Summary of Care List within patients record for relevance to current patient situations, make recommendations to primary provider and other specialists, as indicated.
Provide input to Government personnel with regard to setting expectations to assess, improve, and maintain the quality of the organizations clinical and support activities.
Participate in a collaborative approach with Government personnel that incorporates external and internal customers that systematically assesses processes to improve the performance of health care providers.
Facilitate patient access to medical care by initiating appropriate referrals to other health care providers.
Serve as the attending physician on the Gastroenterology Consult service by:
Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities, including providing clinical oversite, training, and professional guidance. Provide lectures to Family Medicine Residents and teaching medical students and in-house staff through direct and indirect interaction and instruction.
- Support protocols and projects within Gastroenterology Division.
Provide professional guidance and teaching to house staff and medical students assigned to the Gastroenterology Service through patient rounds and other direct interaction and instruction.
Provide professional advice to NH-JACKSONVILLE clinical and ward personnel and/or other department/service/clinic staff with regard to professional management of patients being treated and/or hospitalized.
Requirements:
Any active state license
Board certification in Gastroenterology.
BLS & ACLS certification
Current DEA registration
