Aasraa Trust was established in 2009 to work with society’s most underprivileged and vulnerable children from the streets and slums of Dehradun. Aasraa is not just a charity but a vehicle for empowerment through education, skills training, and nutrition, healthcare and shelter homes. Starting with street level mobilization, Aasraa uses a multi-faced approach that prepares children for mainstream education and transition to higher studies and skills training.
Aasraa is certified by National Institute of Open Schooling and works with the education department of Uttarakhand to improve the quality of education at 9-government school in Dehradun. Aasraa is also implementing a Girl Education Program in four girls Inter Collages in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Aasraa has built shelters for orphaned, abandoned, abused and special needs children.
Aasraa started 14 years ago with 35 children and it now supports over 9000 children from the streets and slums across 50 projects in Dehradun district.
Purpose of the Job
The Coordinator of Special Needs at Aasraa Trust is responsible for leading and overseeing the development and execution of program and strategies aimed at supporting children and individuals with special needs.
Objective of the role
To provide direction and coordinate with the Special need team, in the special need center, ensuring that all services are designed to meet the unique needs of the individuals served.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and coordinate the design, implementation, and evaluation of special needs programs that cater to children and individuals with various disabilities.
2. Monitor individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students, ensuring that each plan is tailored to their unique learning needs and abilities.
3. Provide guidance and support to special education staff, ensuring that they are well-equipped to deliver the best care and education.
4. Ensure that all special needs programs comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and educational standards.
5. Conduct assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of special needs programs and make recommendations for improvements.
6. Train and mentor staff to ensure continuous professional development and a high standard of service delivery.
7. Develop and manage budgets for the special needs program, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Education Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
Preferable Knowledge/Experience
- Experience working with children and individuals with a range of disabilities, including physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges.
- Ability to design and implement specialized programs that meet the needs of children with disabilities.
Competencies Required
Technical competencies: Proficient in Microsoft Office
Behavioral competencies: Strong leadership and management skills.
