The opportunity

GreenTec Workforce Solutions is supporting a rapidly expanding UK high-voltage infrastructure and renewable energy delivery specialist in the appointment of experienced Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.

The organisation provides end-to-end engineering and construction solutions for complex grid connections, substations, utility-scale solar developments and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will be trusted to lead your assigned projects, make informed decisions and coordinate the people and resources required to deliver successful outcomes. You will also have the opportunity to influence project delivery standards and contribute to the continued development of a growing business.

The role

As a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, you will oversee projects throughout the complete delivery lifecycle—from pre-construction planning, design coordination and procurement through to construction, commissioning, energisation and handover.

Working across grid connection, Solar PV and BESS schemes, you will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain responsibility for safety, programme, cost, quality and client satisfaction.

The position may involve managing several concurrent projects of varying complexity and value across different UK locations.

Key responsibilities

Project planning and delivery

• Manage high-voltage grid, BESS and solar infrastructure projects from initial planning through to completion
• Establish clear delivery programmes, milestones, budgets and reporting arrangements
• Coordinate design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activities
• Manage dependencies across multiple technical and operational workstreams
• Monitor progress against agreed objectives and implement recovery plans where required
• Ensure completed works meet the required technical, contractual and quality standards

Team and contractor leadership

• Provide clear and visible leadership throughout project delivery
• Coordinate internal specialists, site personnel, suppliers and subcontractors
• Define responsibilities and maintain accountability across each workstream
• Promote effective communication and cooperation between commercial, engineering and operational teams
• Address performance issues promptly and support a solutions-focused working environment

Health, safety and compliance

• Promote a proactive, zero-harm approach across all project activities
• Ensure delivery complies with CDM Regulations, applicable legislation, industry standards and internal procedures
• Review project risks and confirm that suitable controls are implemented
• Support incident investigations, lessons-learned reviews and improvement actions
• Maintain accurate project assurance and compliance records

Temporary works

• Coordinate temporary works associated with construction delivery, including crane pads, piling platforms, access routes and supporting site infrastructure
• Confirm that temporary works are properly designed, checked, approved and implemented
• Ensure activities are managed in accordance with BS 5975 and relevant project procedures
• Work closely with Temporary Works Coordinators, Supervisors, designers and site teams

Grid connections and stakeholder interfaces

• Manage the technical and operational interfaces associated with contestable and non-contestable connection works
• Coordinate with DNOs, IDNOs, National Grid and other relevant authorities
• Oversee design submissions, technical approvals, planned outages and connection requirements
• Coordinate testing, commissioning and energisation activities
• Maintain productive relationships with landowners, developers, consultants and other project stakeholders

Commercial and contractual management

• Take responsibility for project budgets, forecasts, cash flow and cost reporting
• Identify and manage commercial, contractual and delivery risks
• Administer change control processes, variations and compensation events where applicable
• Monitor contractual obligations and protect the commercial position of the project
• Work closely with commercial and procurement teams to secure equipment, materials and subcontracted services
• Support the timely procurement of long-lead items such as transformers, switchgear, protection systems, inverters and battery storage equipment

Client management and reporting

• Serve as the principal project contact for clients and development partners
• Lead progress meetings and provide clear, accurate project updates
• Manage expectations through transparent communication and early escalation
• Build trusted relationships based on professionalism, accountability and consistent delivery
• Maintain comprehensive records of decisions, risks, actions and project performance

Business improvement

• Review delivery processes and recommend practical improvements
• Identify emerging risks early and ensure appropriate action is taken
• Share lessons learned and promote good practice across the wider project portfolio
• Contribute to the development of project controls, governance and delivery standards
• Support the organisation's continued growth and evolving project management capability

About you

You will be a confident and commercially aware project professional with experience delivering complex energy or utility infrastructure.

You should be comfortable making decisions, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and taking responsibility for project outcomes. The successful candidate will communicate openly, identify issues early and maintain a consistent focus on safety, quality and delivery.

Essential experience

• At least 3–5 years of relevant project management experience within an ICP, EPC, utilities or electrical infrastructure environment
• A track record of delivering projects involving one or more of the following:
• High-voltage grid connections
• Substations and associated electrical infrastructure
• Utility-scale Solar PV
• Battery Energy Storage Systems
• Experience coordinating several projects or complex workstreams simultaneously
• Sound knowledge of high-voltage infrastructure, construction and commissioning
• Understanding of contestable and non-contestable grid connection activities
• Experience managing project budgets, contracts, change and commercial risk
• Strong client, contractor and stakeholder management capability
• Ability to plan effectively, solve problems and escalate material risks at the appropriate stage

Essential qualifications

• HNC, HND or degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
• EUSR SHEA Power
• Valid CSCS card
• Full UK driving licence

Desirable qualifications and experience

• Temporary Works Coordinator or Temporary Works Supervisor certification
• APM, PRINCE2 or another recognised project management qualification
• NRSWA Supervisor accreditation
• NEBOSH qualification
• Experience working directly with DNOs, IDNOs or National Grid
• Delivery experience on infrastructure operating at voltages up to 400kV
• Knowledge of NEC contracts and associated contract-management processes
