Job Summary:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of computer networks that organizations depend on for daily operations. These networks typically encompass intranets, extranets, local area networks (LAN), and wide area networks (WAN).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage computer networks, including mainframes, VPNs, routers, and other physical hardware.
- Install and configure network equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Create and manage firewalls, and update antivirus software and data security systems to safeguard data and communications.
- Monitor computer systems to enhance network performance across all platforms.
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and communicate networking issues to employees and management.
- Implement and oversee disaster recovery procedures to protect critical data.
- Stay informed on security and networking best practices to provide effective solutions and protection for company systems.
- Administer computer networks and related computing environments, including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
- Conduct disaster recovery operations and data backups as necessary.
- Protect data, software, and hardware by planning and implementing network security measures.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and other network/system problems.
- Replace faulty network hardware components as required.
- Maintain, configure, and monitor antivirus software and email applications.
- Evaluate network performance and make adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with network users to resolve existing system issues.
- Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
- Coordinate access and usage of computer networks.
- Design, configure, and test networking software, hardware, and operating system software.
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
- Adhere to established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval, and successful implementation of changes to network infrastructure.
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the company's security team.
- Liaise with vendors and IT personnel for effective problem resolution.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a related field, with a focus on network engineering.
- Certification such as CCNP (CCIE and/or CISSP preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
- Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models.
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring, diagnostic, and analytics tools.
- Experience in network security.
- Proficient in both LAN and WAN environments.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and hardware components.
- Ability to analyze problems and visualize effective solutions.
- Proficient in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers.
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.
- Capable of creating accurate network diagrams and documentation for designing and planning network communication systems.
- Provide detailed information for hardware and software selection.
- Quick to learn new technologies and products using documentation and online resources.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, both within and outside of IT.
- Self-starter who can work independently while also being comfortable in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Dependable and flexible as needed.
- Proficient in analyzing and evaluating network performance to identify issues and implement solutions for optimal efficiency.
- Ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi and security infrastructure.
- Effective time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from design to implementation.
- Skilled in communicating technical information to both technical team members and non-technical coworkers.
