Gourmet Recruitment International Pty LTD acts as an intermediatory for Recruiting Seafarers into the shipping industry.
As such, Gourmet Recruitment International Pty LTD, responsibilities to the crew member include:
- Selecting and assisting the Seafarer and, where applicable, the negotiation of salaries, the negotiation of pensions, social contributions, taxes, and other obligatory concepts relating to their employment, payable in the state of residence of each crew member.
- Ensuring that the requirements of the Flag State Legislations are complied with regarding the rank, qualification, and certificates of the crew as per the requirements of STCW 95 and Employment Regulations.
- Ensuring that all crew members have passed a medical check-up by a qualified doctor (Flag State Requirements, or other, higher medical standards agreed with by the ship owners).
- Ensuring that crew members work with a common language (as per ISM Code and ISG Code – International Safety Code) as well as a sufficient knowledge of English to carry out their work safely (multi-cultural crew)
- Ensuring that crew receive training regarding the ISM Code.
- Instructing the crew to obey all reasonable orders of the ship owners or of the company including orders relating to safety, navigation, preventing pollution and protecting the environment.
- Ensuring that nobody sails without the prior consent of the ship owners and/or the company.
- Assisting with crew transportation and repatriation if necessary.
Liability
1. The Agency shall not be liable for any of the following:
2. The loss of any data, CV’s or other materials submitted by the Candidate.
3. Any errors or inaccuracies present in the information presented to Candidates including, but not limited to, vacancy advertisements.
4. The failure of the Candidate to secure employment with any of its Clients whether caused by the negligence of the Agency, its employees or agents, or any other cause.
5. The failure of the Candidate to secure employment due to their inability to achieve the necessary medical clearance, criminal background certificate and/or work visas.
6. Reimbursement of any criminal background certificate, medical certificate, visa/s or any other cost relating to pre-employment paperwork, regardless of whether the Candidate is successful in securing shipboard employment or not;
7. Any loss or damage of any kind, howsoever caused, arising out of the negligence, misconduct, dishonesty, breach of faith or breach of contract on the part of any Client; and
8. Any loss or damage of any kind howsoever caused, arising out of any material submitted to the Agency by the candidate.
9. If the Agency is in breach of these Terms and Conditions, we will only be responsible for any losses to the extent that they are a foreseeable consequence to both of us. Our liability shall not in any event include business losses such as lost data, lost profits or business interruption.
10. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall exclude or otherwise restrict the Agency’s liability for death or personal injury arising out of its own negligence.
Indemnity
The Candidate shall indemnify the Agency against any costs, liability, damages, loss, claims or proceedings which may arise out of its use of the Services; its submission of any information set out in these Terms and Conditions or any other information; any applications it may submit to any Client; or any breach of any part of these Terms and Conditions.
Please note: Failure to disclose medical history or condition will invalidate a Medical Certificate.
Below is a list of common conditions that may prevent a Medical Certificate for Service at Sea from being issued:
- Pregnancy
- Epilepsy/Seizures
- Insulin dependent diabetes (The use of insulin is prohibited onboard) (contraindicated)
- Anxiety, mental or mood disorders
- Alcohol or drug addiction problems
- Eating disorders
- Obesity, defined as a Body Mass Index and no greater than 35

- Diseases of the heart arteries
- Uncontrolled Hypertension
- Coronary Bypass surgery (CABG) and/or Angioplasty
- Irregular heart rhythm
- Use of Pacemaker
- Diseases of the lungs (including asthma)
- Neurological diseases
- Unexplained loss of consciousness
- Severe head injury or major brain surgery
- Deafness
- Vision - specific positions may require full colour vision:
- Testing will be done with/without glasses or contact lenses
- You must have vision in both eyes
- Joint replacements
- Limb prostheses
- Organ Transplants
- Conditions which limit mobility and stamina both under normal and emergency conditions
- Medication - which may affect performance or alertness
- Blood thinners
- Medical conditions that need frequent follow up with specialists or doctor visits
- Recent surgeries
- Chronic and/or recurrent neck, knee, lumbar or back pain
- Pain medications
- Chronic pain conditions
- History of Cancer
