Deputy Security Officer
Position Summary:
The Deputy Security Officer reports to the Security Officer and is responsible for implementing the Ship's Security Plan, and policies as stated in the Security Manual of SQM and the Guest Conduct Policy.
The Deputy Security Officer must develop and implement procedures to ensure security obligations and a policy are fulfilled; and is expected to contribute to the Global Security Departments continuous improvement efforts.
Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venues and throughout the ship in accordance with philosophies anchored in:
1. Excellence, each employee always conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner. This consists of
physical and verbal interactions with guests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and crew areas.
2. The Deputy Security Officer will be responsible to monitor all access points of entry to the vessel including the supervision of gangway security staff to follow and implement the Ship Security Plan and use guidance provided in the SQM Security Manual and from the Security Officer.
3. The Deputy Security Officer shall understand the Safety and Quality Management Program including responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill. An excellent understanding of the masters Rules and Regulations and the Companys Policy and a thorough knowledge of the Security Manual and the Ship Security Plan are essential for this position.
4. The Deputy Security Officer is responsible for conducting shipboard security training as directed by the Security Officer.
5. The Deputy Security Officer is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of all security equipment as directed by the Security Officer.
6.The Deputy Security Officer shall participate in maintaining good order and conduct, throughout the vessel.
7. The Deputy Security Officer shall conduct frequent security and inspections of the vessel.
8. In cooperation with the Security Officer, the Deputy Security Officer will be on call to assist the Security Supervisors where necessary.
9. There shall always be good cooperation and hand-over between the Deputy Security Officer and Security Officer regarding incidents, follow-ups of security cases and gangway operations.
10. The Deputy Security Officer shall, through observation, preserve the security and safety of the vessel, guests, and the crew.
11. The Deputy Security Officer shall attend meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities as required.
Key requirements:
Minimum age for all applicants is 21 years.
Must have clear criminal record.
Must not be on any chronic medication and have clear medical history.
Must have excellent written and verbal English language communication skills.
Candidates are required to have five (5) years experience in at least one of the following areas.
Army/Maritime/Aviation/Police or Hotel Security environment with the ability to function in a multicultural environment. The Deputy Security Officer should have education/experience in counter terrorism and physical security which includes:
-Access control including anti-terrorist countermeasures, security screening methods and equipment operation (x-ray, metal detector, explosives/narcotics detection).
-Interpersonal skills that include strong communication and conflict resolution abilities.
-Incident command, including first responder, scene and evidence preservation, investigation, interview, and documentation.
-Appropriate enforcement skills, including appropriate detention and physical search procedures.
-Procedural knowledge, including familiarity with security-related civil and criminal law.
-The Deputy Security Officer is also expected to demonstrate a high level of skill in protecting assets; crisis and emergency management, planning and response; contingency planning and the capability to organize investigations.
-Managerial and organizational skills combined with literacy and knowledge of computers is very important for this position.
-The Deputy Security Officer is expected to follow RCL policies that require the immediate notification of the CSO and Miami personnel of all situations which have caused or may cause a lessening of port security; in as much as any lessening of port security could impact future port calls by other ships and ships of other cruise lines.
- The Deputy Security Officer must maintain a thorough understanding of the ISPS code, Security while performing the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally/frequently/continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
-All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
