About the job Senior Equipment Engineer/Motorpool Manager (for a Construction Firm client)
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Equipment Selection and Installation:
- Collaborates with Project Engineers, Operations Manager, and General Manager to assess
equipment requirements and specifications for new projects or process improvements.
- Lead the evaluation and selection of machinery and tools, considering factors such as
performance, reliability, cost, and scalability.
- Manage the installation and commissioning of new equipment, coordinating with vendors,
contractors, and internal teams to ensure timely deployment.
2. Maintenance and Repair:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime
and prolong operational lifespan.
- Conduct routine inspections and troubleshooting of vehicles & heavy equipment to identify
potential issues and address them proactively.
- Coordinate with maintenance technicians and external service providers to schedule repairs and
upgrades as needed.
3. Process Optimization:
- Analyze equipment performance data and production metrics to identify opportunities for
process optimization and efficiency gains.
- Implement improvements to equipment settings, parameters, and controls to enhance
productivity and quality.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement lean construction principles
and continuous improvement initiatives.
4. Fleet Management:
- Maintain an inventory of vehicles and other motorized equipment.
- Coordinate the assignment of heavy equipment based on operational requirements.
- Develop and implement procedures for heavy equipment acquisition, disposal, and
replacement.
- Ensure that heavy equipment are properly maintained and serviced according to manufacturer
guidelines and regulatory standards.
5. Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing vehicle operation and
maintenance.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Conduct driver and operator training programs on safe driving practices on equipment and
vehicles operation.
- Maintain accurate records of heavy equipment and vehicle inspections, maintenance, and
repairs.
6. Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Prepare annual budgets for the motor pool department, including expenses related to vehicle
maintenance, fuel, and repairs.
- Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving initiatives where possible.
- Evaluate vendors and negotiate contracts for vehicle maintenance services and supplies.
7. Reporting and Documentation:
- Generate regular reports on vehicle and heavy equipment utilization, maintenance activities,
and operational performance.
- Maintain records of vehicle registration, insurance, and licensing.
- Prepare documentation for heavy equipment and vehicle accidents, incidents, and insurance
claims as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Mechanical Engineer
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in equipment engineering or maintenance, preferably in
a construction environment
- Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction
practices
- In-depth knowledge of construction equipment, automation systems, and control technologies.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, with the ability to interpret and leverage
equipment performance data.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple
projects simultaneously, and drive results.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across
functions and levels of the organization.
