The Occupational Health and Safety Analyst will be responsible for implementing and maintaining health, safety, and wellness initiatives to support and ensure a safe workplace, and encourages healthy lifestyles. The Occupational Health and Safety Analyst will also cover reception on a regular basis as well as be the primary back up for our Timekeeping system
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
- New Hire Orientation
- Provides consultation and guidance to the business to ensure legislative compliance.
- Identifies, assesses, and works with management to eliminate/control hazards and risks.
- Performs Job Risk Analysis to ensure compliance and assist in development and maintenance of control programs.
- Coordinate all Workers Compensation activities, including return to work programs.
- Conducts medical surveillance programs (lead, noise, forklift operators, ERT, etc.).
- Reports and investigates workplace accidents and incidents.
- Maintains, reviews, revises and/or develops occupational health and safety program using principles of quality (ex. Safety Groups).
- Develops, coordinates, and delivers training/communication sessions for employees and managers with respect to all Health and Safety programs, policies or procedures.
- Collaborates with external Environmental Engineer toward achieving ISO 14001 Objectives and Targets.
- Coordinates the Joint Health & Safety Committee (training, meetings, workplace inspections, reporting).
- Coordinates Emergency Response Program (training, response guidelines, and staging areas/equipment).
- Implements and coordinates legislated programs such as laser safety, radiation safety, respiratory protection, designated substance (monitoring, control program and health surveillance).
- Implements and coordinates Engineering Change Control Programs for all equipment installations per Province of Ontario requirements (pre-start, decommissioning, and commissioning procedures).
- Coordinate Environmental Program with consulting firm.
- Manage chemical inventory & MSDS approvals
- Coordinate with Fire Warden team on Fire safety program
Other Job Duties:
- Is the primary back up for Reception as and when needed.
- Provides primary emergency assistance to employees, and referral to appropriate resources.
- Ensures legal compliance with other codes, standards and guidelines as applicable (ex. Health Information Protection Act, Ontario Fire Code, CSA and/or ANSI Standards).
Education and Experience:
- College Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field or equivalent experience.
- Certification and/or training in Occupational Health and Safety as part of a professional program would be an asset.
- 1-2 years experience in occupational health and safety (manufacturing environment preferred)
- Good written/oral communication skills in English.
- Proficient on computer software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to respond to changing priorities and handling multiple tasks, proven ability to meet deadlines
- Good initiative, strong attention to detail
- Decision making and problem solving ability
Minimum Physical Requirements:
