2nd Shift Tooling Room Technician
Contract-To-Hire
Reports to: Tool Room Supervisor (directly) / Tool Room Machinist (indirectly)
Shift: 2nd Shift
Summary:
The Tooling Room Technician works closely with the Crew Supervisor and Manufacturing Specialists to prepare, maintain, and provide tooling that supports the production of high-quality products meeting customer specifications. This role ensures tooling readiness, supports efficient operations, and contributes to meeting or exceeding established productivity targets.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate Makino Milling Machines and other tool room equipment (Wheelabrator, manual mills, grinders) as trained.

Prepare tooling, including breakdown, cleaning, and assembly for machining.

Measure step heights on punches and log results in the tool room step list.

Maintain punch cut records, compacting tool sign-out sheets, and dispense to oven documentation.

Receive, inspect, and verify tooling from vendors as needed.

Support tooling programming by assisting Tooling Specialists with writing tool path programs for Makino mills.

Use computer systems to transfer CNC programs to Makino mills.

Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.

Assist with tooling inventory and organization.

Perform and document daily and monthly operator preventive maintenance (PMs).

Ensure tooling and dies are production-ready at all times.

Support training initiatives as directed by Tooling Specialists.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
-
CNC/machining background (minimum 2 years required).
-
Ability to read and interpret blueprints (preferred).
-
Proficiency in operating drill presses and sawing equipment.
-
Familiarity with manual tool room equipment.
-
Basic knowledge of machine safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Understanding of lock-out/tag-out procedures.
-
Material handling, including hazardous materials handling and storage.
-
Ability to prepare details for CNC machining after heat treat (face forms).
-
Experience with preventive maintenance on machine tools.
-
Use of hand tools on contoured steel from CNC milling operations.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 2 years CNC/machining experience.
