The Opportunity
An upper-midscale small hotel in The Bahamas is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Housekeeping Manager to lead the cleanliness, presentation and readiness of guest rooms and public areas. The successful candidate will balance high standards with practical labour, linen, inventory and cost controls while building a dependable team that takes pride in creating a welcoming guest environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily housekeeping operations for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces and laundry or linen functions, as applicable.
- Plan room assignments and staffing based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, special requests and operational priorities.
- Inspect guest rooms and public areas regularly to ensure cleanliness, presentation, maintenance and brand standards are consistently achieved.
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, coach and evaluate housekeeping team members; reinforce productivity, attendance, grooming and conduct expectations.
- Conduct daily briefings, communicate priorities clearly and follow up on incomplete rooms, service requests and quality concerns.
- Coordinate closely with Front Office to maintain accurate room status, prioritize arrivals and release clean rooms promptly.
- Work with Engineering to identify, report and follow through on maintenance defects, out-of-order rooms and preventive-maintenance needs.
- Manage linen, guest supplies, cleaning products, uniforms and equipment through accurate ordering, receiving, storage, issuance and inventory controls.
- Monitor departmental labour, productivity, overtime, supply usage, linen loss and expenses; address variances and support budget preparation.
- Maintain safe handling, labelling and storage of chemicals and ensure compliance with sanitation, workplace-safety and security procedures.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns, lost-and-found matters and special housekeeping requests, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-through.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least five years of progressive hotel housekeeping experience, including two years in a supervisory or management role.
- Diploma or coursework in hospitality management, housekeeping operations or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of guest-room cleaning standards, room inspections, public-area care, linen control, laundry processes and safe chemical handling.
- Demonstrated ability to schedule and lead a housekeeping team while managing productivity, quality and labour costs.
- Strong organization, communication, coaching, problem-solving and follow-through skills.
- Working knowledge of hotel property-management systems, room-status procedures and standard office applications is preferred.
- Experience in an upper-midscale small hotel or comparable lodging operation is highly desirable.
- Guest rooms and public areas are consistently clean, welcoming, well maintained and ready on time.
- Room status is accurate, and Front Office and Housekeeping communicate effectively throughout the day.
- Labour, linen, supplies, inventory and departmental expenses remain within approved targets.
- The housekeeping team is well trained, productive, dependable and accountable for quality.
- Availability to work a flexible hospitality schedule, including early mornings, weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend and reach, and safely lift or move items typically required in housekeeping operations.
- Ability to work around approved cleaning products and respond promptly to changing room priorities and business volumes.
