The Opportunity
An upper-midscale small hotel in The Bahamas is seeking a poised and dependable Front Office Shift Manager to lead the guest experience during assigned shifts. This hands-on role supervises front desk activity, supports arrivals and departures, resolves guest concerns and coordinates with hotel departments to keep the operation running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead front office operations during assigned shifts, ensuring accurate, efficient and welcoming check-in and check-out experiences.
- Assign duties, conduct shift briefings, monitor staffing and attendance, and provide real-time coaching and performance feedback to front office team members.
- Review arrivals, departures, room status, special requests, VIPs, groups and operational notes before and throughout each shift.
- Coordinate closely with Housekeeping, Engineering, Security and Food and Beverage to address room readiness and guest needs promptly.
- Resolve guest concerns with empathy, sound judgment and appropriate service recovery, escalating serious matters when necessary.
- Monitor reservations, room assignments, rate accuracy, payment authorization, deposits, folios and credit procedures.
- Complete opening, closing, shift reconciliation and handover requirements accurately, including cash and key controls.
- Support room-revenue opportunities by promoting upgrades, hotel services and appropriate guest offers.
- Respond calmly and correctly to emergencies, incidents, security concerns and system interruptions in accordance with procedures.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, guest profiles and management updates while protecting sensitive guest and company information.
- Ensure lobby and front desk areas remain organized, professional and ready to welcome guests.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least five years of front office, reservations or guest-services experience in a hotel, including supervisory or lead-shift responsibility.
- Diploma or degree in hospitality management, tourism or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of hotel property-management systems, reservations, payment processing and front office controls.
- Strong communication, conflict-resolution, organization and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, remain calm under pressure and exercise discretion with guest and company information.
- Strong computer literacy and clear written communication for logs, reports and guest correspondence.
- Experience with group arrivals, VIP service, night operations or revenue-focused upselling is an asset.
- Arrivals, departures and shift handovers are efficient, accurate and welcoming.
- Guest concerns are owned, documented and resolved promptly, with effective follow-through across departments.
- Front office procedures, cash controls, privacy standards and safety protocols are consistently followed.
- The front office team is informed, professional and confident during every assigned shift.
- Availability for rotating shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnight coverage, weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the hotel to support guests and operations.
- Professional presentation, dependable attendance and the flexibility to respond to changing operational needs.
