PAINTING FOREMAN
A new ship repair yard is being launched in Kingston, Jamaica, which will provide dry docking services for commercial vessels up to 20,000 tons, and a range of maintenance and repair services. The company is looking for candidates for the position of the Painting Foreman.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- assist the head of the department in defining qualification requirements for painters and blasters and provide support to the recruitment and onboarding process
- provide training, support, direction and guidance to the personnel to continually develop their work habits, job skills and safety practices
- supervise all painting operations
- carry out inspections and monitor: climatic conditions, surface preparation and coating sequence and application
- read and understand marine paint coating specifications and application processes
- organize, plan and coordinate the work of the Painting Team and solve arising issues
- ensure compliance with health & safety protocol including PPE
- contribute to general process improvements and initiatives with the focus on improved quality and throughput
- ensure an effective and efficient operations that meets safety and quality standards as well as compliance with all applicable codes and standards
- monitor the process in order to meet deadlines and inform superiors about possible delays and quality issues
- contribute to the selection of suppliers, painting materials and equipment
- maintain and make repairs to the equipment
- performing his professionality with his best experience
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate should possess some or all of the following qualifications:
- minimum of seven 5 years shipboard experience with the marine paint and preservation trade
- must have the understanding and ability to operate various painting equipment like an air compressor, pneumatic and electric spray pump
- English language proficiency
- willing to overtime, night work and work on Sundays and public holidays
- commitment and understanding of all matters relating to health & safety
- leadership and problem-solving skills
- strong time management and prioritization skills
- ability to multi-task and be self-motivated
- ability to supervise diverse work groups
- strong ability to share technical knowledge and perform on the job trainings
- working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- willingness to relocate
