SHIP REPAIRS PROJECT MANAGER
A new ship repair yard is being launched in Kingston, Jamaica, which will provide dry docking services for commercial vessels, and a range of maintenance and repair services. The company is seeking an experienced and skilled Ship Repair Project Manager to oversee and coordinate ship repair projects from initiation to completion.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare repair works based on provided Shipowner specifications and verify them upon vessel arrival.
- Conduct risk analysis for planned repairs, identifying critical resources needed, including materials with long delivery times and required skilled employees or subcontractors.
- Plan repair implementation, considering technology, resource availability, and work sequence.
- Check vessel readiness for shipyard entry, gather necessary documents for repair works, docking plan, ballasting conditions, fuel quantity, etc.
- Collaborate with Class Surveyor and Maritime Authorities to secure Shipowner's required ship operation documents.
- Verify work scope after the ship arrives at the shipyard, in conjunction with the shipowner and workers/contractors. Participate in preparing job descriptions.
- Maintain regular communication with the Shipowner, clarifying work scope, providing progress updates, planned completion dates, and all repair-related matters.
- Assess and approve additional works proposed by the Shipowner, evaluating their impact on the repair completion date.
- Coordinate works performed by own employees, subcontractors, and the ship's crew, ensuring safety during work, especially for fire-hazardous tasks.
- Work closely with HSE and fire prevention teams to ensure safe working conditions on the ship.
- Collaborate with quality control services to achieve satisfactory results accepted by the client, Class Surveyor, and maritime administration.
- Supervise repair works to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, resource optimization, and financial goals achievement.
- Implement repair works within the assumed budget and report any budget deviations.
- Submit weekly repair progress reports regarding schedule and expected financial outcomes.
- Ensure environmental protection and prevent pollution during repair activities.
- Supervise vessel docking and undocking operations, inspecting ship and dock readiness and granting permission to proceed. Verify hull tightness and outboard connections during undocking.
- Oversee services preparing the ship for works, including ventilation, lighting, electricity, technical gases, scaffolding, and cleaning.
- Prepare a detailed report on completed repairs, results, and explanations for any deviations from assumptions.
- Archive all documentation related to the performed repairs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Ship Repair Project Manager or in a similar role within the maritime industry.
- Strong knowledge of ship repair processes, equipment, and industry regulations.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is advantageous.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address challenges and overcome obstacles.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations in ship repair operations.
