Job Openings Regional Financial Controller, USA

About the job Regional Financial Controller, USA

Regional Financial Controller, USA

GCO Partners is hiring a Regional Financial Controller, USA for a global client opportunity within an international finance function.

This role is suited to a technically strong finance professional who can take ownership of regional financial control, work with senior stakeholders, and bring structure to a finance environment that is still evolving. This is not a pure reporting role and not a role for someone who only wants clean, already-automated processes. Tiny red flag parade avoided upfront.

About the opportunity

You will support the USA region of a global business operating across multiple territories, entities, and currencies. The finance function is currently working through manual processes, with future transformation planned, including system improvements.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced controller who wants meaningful regional ownership, international exposure, and the chance to help strengthen controls, reporting, and financial discipline in a changing business.

You will be embedded into the client's finance team and supported by GCO Partners throughout your placement.

What you'll be doing

  • Own regional financial control for the USA business
  • Manage month-end close activities for the region
  • Review journals, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure accurate reporting across relevant entities and cost centres
  • Support regional management reporting and variance analysis
  • Maintain and improve financial controls, processes, and documentation
  • Work with AP, AR, payroll, and wider finance teams to ensure clean financial data
  • Support statutory, audit, tax, and compliance requirements for the region
  • Liaise with senior stakeholders across finance and the wider business
  • Identify process gaps and help improve ways of working
  • Support future finance transformation and systems improvement initiatives

What we're looking for

  • Strong experience in financial control, management accounting, or regional finance ownership
  • Solid month-end close and balance sheet control experience
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience working in a multi-entity or international business
  • Ability to work with manual processes while improving structure and accuracy
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Clear, confident communication with senior stakeholders
  • Comfortable working remotely with global teams
  • Strong ownership, judgement, and attention to detail
  • A relevant accounting qualification, such as CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent, would be highly advantageous

Strong advantages

  • USA regional finance experience
  • US GAAP exposure
  • Experience in SaaS, technology, learning, digital, or services businesses
  • Experience in a global, multi-currency environment
  • Exposure to Sage Intacct or finance system implementations
  • Experience supporting audits, tax filings, or compliance across the USA
  • Experience working in a business going through finance transformation
  • Experience partnering with commercial or operational teams

Working model

This is a South Africa-based opportunity.

Johannesburg is preferred for initial onboarding and collaboration, with flexibility considered for exceptional candidates based elsewhere in South Africa.

The client operates remotely across global teams, but the South African finance team may collaborate more closely during the initial setup period.

This may initially be a 12-month opportunity, with possible longer-term potential depending on business needs and performance.

Why this role is worth considering

This is a good fit for someone who wants regional ownership in a global finance environment.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with international stakeholders, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting quality, and contribute to a finance function preparing for future transformation. You will also have the support of GCO Partners, with clear expectations, ongoing communication, and a people-first approach to long-term success.
