Role Overview

The FP&A Manager will play a key role in supporting the finance function across a defined client portfolio, with a strong focus on financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and decision support. Working closely with the Fractional CFO and senior finance team, the role provides critical insight to founders and leadership teams to inform strategic and operational decisions.

The role begins at 10–20 hours per week, with scope to scale based on performance and portfolio expansion.

Key Requirements

  • 2–3 years international experience (US, UK, EU, AUS or similar)

  • Demonstrated exposure to SMEs, scale-ups, and international client environments

  • Proven capability operating in remote, distributed teams and managing cross-border workflows

  • Strong financial modelling capability with advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and cloud-based finance tools

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable business insight

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver budgeting, forecasting, rolling reforecasts, and cash-flow modelling across assigned client portfolios

  • Build and maintain financial models to support scenario planning, growth initiatives, and commercial decision-making

  • Translate accounting outputs into meaningful management reporting and performance insights

  • Partner closely with founders and senior stakeholders to support strategic and operational decisions

  • Track KPIs and financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities

  • Operate effectively within a flat, collaborative structure and adapt to evolving processes and tools

Culture & Working Style Alignment

The role requires a strong cultural match and the ability to thrive in a values-driven, high-trust, startup-style environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates:

Cultural Alignment

  • A values-driven mindset grounded in integrity, honesty, and meaningful contribution

  • A whole-person approach, bringing strong self-awareness, clarity of values, and personal motivation

  • High trustworthiness and reliability, essential for operating within a global remote team

  • Comfort working in a low-hierarchy environment where everyone has an equal voice

Behavioural Expectations

  • A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach, comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed levels

  • Strong pace and time-management skills, particularly during busy reporting periods and US time zone overlap

  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to adapt to processes that are still being built, refined, and scaled

Working Model

  • Fractional engagement: ±10–20 hours weekly, with potential to scale

  • Hybrid Johannesburg, supported by remote operations

  • Time zone: Required overlap with US West Coast hours

  • Workload cycle: High-intensity first two weeks of each month, with greater flexibility thereafter
