About the job Finance & HR Assistant Accountant

Finance and HR / Assistant Accountant

GCO Partners is hiring a Finance and HR / Assistant Accountant for a global client opportunity within an international finance function.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys variety, can work accurately across finance administration and accounting support, and is comfortable supporting a business where processes are still being improved. You should be organised, detail-focused, and confident communicating with stakeholders across different regions.

About the opportunity

You will support a global business with finance operations across multiple regions. The finance environment includes multiple entities, international stakeholders, manual processes, and planned system improvements in the future.

This is a good opportunity for someone who wants broader exposure than a narrow finance role. You will support day-to-day finance activities, assist with accounting tasks, and help with HR-related finance administration where needed.

You will be embedded into the client's team and supported by GCO Partners throughout your placement.

What you'll be doing

  • Support day-to-day finance administration and accounting activities
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable tasks where required
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliations across supplier, customer, bank, or balance sheet accounts
  • Support month-end close activities and finance reporting
  • Assist with journal preparation, accruals, prepayments, and supporting schedules
  • Help maintain accurate finance records across multiple entities
  • Support payroll, people-related finance administration, or HR reporting where required
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to resolve finance and documentation queries
  • Assist with audit requests and finance documentation
  • Support process improvements as the finance function becomes more structured

What we're looking for

  • Experience in an assistant accountant, finance officer, finance administrator, or similar role
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Strong reconciliation skills
  • Good Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
  • Comfortable handling both structured tasks and ad hoc requests
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Clear, professional communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely with global stakeholders
  • Organised, reliable, and able to follow through without constant chasing
  • A relevant finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or similar qualification would be advantageous

Strong advantages

  • Experience in a global, multi-entity, or multi-currency business
  • Exposure to AP, AR, payroll, HR administration, or month-end support
  • Experience in SaaS, technology, learning, digital, or services businesses
  • Sage Intacct exposure
  • Experience supporting finance process improvements or system changes
  • Experience working with confidential employee, payroll, or HR-related information
  • Exposure to international finance teams or remote stakeholder support

Working model

This is a South Africa-based opportunity.

Johannesburg is preferred for initial onboarding and collaboration, with flexibility considered for exceptional candidates based elsewhere in South Africa.

The client operates remotely across global teams, but the South African finance team may collaborate more closely during the initial setup period.

This may initially be a 12-month opportunity, with possible longer-term potential depending on business needs and performance.

Why this role is worth considering

This is a good fit for someone who wants a varied finance role with international exposure.

You will support a global team, gain insight into how a multi-region finance function operates, and contribute to a business that is improving its systems and processes. You will also have the support of GCO Partners, with clear expectations, ongoing communication, and a people-first approach to long-term success.
