Audit Senior

3-Month Contract | UK Audit Exposure

Location: South Africa, remote through GCO Partners
Contract: 3 months
Level: Audit Senior
Start: As soon as possible / to be confirmed

Take ownership of UK audit work through a focused 3-month contract

GCO Partners is looking for an experienced Audit Senior to support a UK-based accounting, audit and advisory firm on a 3-month contract.

This role is ideal for someone who has completed articles and has strong external audit experience, ideally with exposure to planning, fieldwork, completion and junior team supervision. You'll be supporting a client-facing UK audit team across a varied portfolio, including entrepreneurial businesses, owner-managed companies, professionals and private client structures.

This is not a warm body with CaseWare access situation. The client will need someone who can pick things up quickly, manage their sections properly and produce work that does not come back looking like a crime scene.

What you'll be doing

You'll support the audit team across the audit cycle, including:

  • Leading assigned audit sections from planning through to completion
  • Preparing and reviewing audit working papers
  • Identifying audit risks and documenting responses clearly
  • Managing information requests and following up on outstanding items
  • Clearing review notes efficiently and applying feedback
  • Supporting the preparation of completion documents
  • Communicating with client teams and internal stakeholders in a clear, professional way
  • Coaching or supporting junior team members where required
  • Managing deadlines, budgets and priorities during a busy audit period
  • Escalating issues early and contributing to practical solutions

What we're looking for

You'll likely be a good fit if you have:

  • Completed SAICA articles
  • At least 3 to 5 years of external audit experience
  • Strong experience in statutory audit, ideally within a small, medium or mid-tier practice environment
  • Experience taking ownership of audit files or significant audit sections
  • Exposure to audit planning, fieldwork and completion
  • Strong working paper preparation and review skills
  • Good understanding of audit methodology and professional standards
  • Confidence working with deadlines, budgets and review points
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely with an international team
  • A proactive, accountable and detail-oriented working style

UK audit experience would be a strong advantage, but it is not essential. We are more interested in strong audit fundamentals, ownership, quality of work and the ability to integrate quickly into a UK team.

You'll do well here if you are

  • Confident taking ownership without needing constant direction
  • Able to spot risks, gaps and messy audit evidence before someone else has to
  • Comfortable asking sensible questions early
  • Calm and structured under deadline pressure
  • Strong at documentation and review-note clearance
  • Professional, responsive and easy to work with remotely
  • Interested in building meaningful UK audit exposure through GCO

Why this contract is worth considering

This is a focused 3-month opportunity to gain UK audit exposure while remaining based in South Africa. You'll work as part of an international client team, with GCO providing local support, structure and guidance throughout the engagement.

For a strong Audit Senior, this could be a valuable stepping stone into future global opportunities through GCO.
