Exciting Opportunity: Fractional CFO / Senior Accountant Hybrid Johannesburg
GCO Partners is supporting a boutique strategic finance firm in identifying a Fractional CFO to lead high-impact portfolios across the US and Canada. This opportunity is suited to an experienced finance leader who can operate confidently within an international, remote-first environment while delivering strategic value to growing SMEs.
Role Overview
The Fractional CFO will take full ownership of the finance function across a defined client portfolio, delivering strategic guidance, operational execution, and commercial insight. The role begins at 10-20 hours per week, with scope to scale based on performance and portfolio expansion. As the client base grows, the CFO will also build and lead a small accounting pod (senior + junior).
Key Requirements
- CA(SA) required, with strong post-articles experience in CFO, Head of Finance, Strategic Finance, or Outsourced CFO roles.
- 2-3 years international experience (US, UK, EU, AUS or similar).
- Demonstrated exposure to SMEs, scale-ups, and international client environments.
- Proven capability operating in remote, distributed teams and managing cross-border workflows.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and cloud-based accounting tools.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end finance operations, including cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling, and long-term planning.
- Partner closely with founders and senior leadership to deliver strategic financial advisory.
- Build, mentor, and manage a small finance team as the portfolio expands.
- Operate effectively within a flat, collaborative structure and adapt to evolving processes and tools.
