Description:

The Senior Associate Attorney and Associate Attorney will be responsible for representing attorneys in disciplinary proceedings before state bar associations. They will provide legal counsel, defense strategies, and ensure the protection of the professional rights of attorneys facing ethical matters. This role involves significant interaction with clients and requires expert legal skills in representing attorneys in the complex arena of professional responsibility.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to manage multiple cases, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively and persuasively.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skilled negotiator with effective communication for liaising with clients, attorneys, and legal assistants.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis.
  • Comfortable with technology and capable of learning new software platforms.

Experience:

  • Senior Associate Attorney: 7+ years of experience in litigation, legal ethics, professional responsibility, or disciplinary defense.
  • Associate Attorney: 4+ years of experience in litigation, legal ethics, professional responsibility, or disciplinary defense.
  • California State Bar experience is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar association.

Essential Functions:

Client Representation:

  • Advise attorneys on ethical obligations and professional responsibility.
  • Guide clients through disciplinary proceedings, ensuring they fully understand their rights and obligations.
  • Represent clients in hearings, oral arguments, and related events before state bar associations, presenting arguments and challenging allegations.

Case Investigation, Legal Documentation, and Presentation:

  • Evaluate complaints, conduct interviews, and analyze cases to develop strong defense strategies.
  • Draft legal briefs, motions, responses, and other documents for attorney defense.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and collaborate with other legal professionals in the firm.

Growth and Professional Development:

  • Assist in developing training materials and support firm growth.
  • Stay updated on legal ethics, professional responsibility, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Participate in legal associations to stay connected with industry developments.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Daily contemporaneous billing through Clio.
