Job Description:

• Supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel engaged in specific nursing services, such as but not limited to obstetrics, pediatrics, or surgery, or two or more patient care units.
• Supervises Head Nurses in carrying out their responsibilities in the management of nursing care.
• Evaluates performance of Head Nurse and nursing care as a whole and suggests modifications.
• Inspects unit areas to verify that patient needs are met.
• Participates in planning work of own units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and with those of related departments.
• Consults with the Head Nurse on specific nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies.
• Supervises maintenance of personnel and nursing records.
• Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for unit staff members and participates in guidance and educational programs.
• Interviews pre-screened applicants and makes recommendations for employing or terminating personnel.
• Assists the Chief Nurse and Assistant Chief Nurse in formulating unit budgets.
• Engages in studies and investigations related to improving nursing care.

Qualifications:

• B.S. Nursing degree from a reputable college or university.
• With at least 9 units earned MA in Nursing or MS Nursing.
• Experience as Head Nurse is required in which administrative, supervisory, and teaching abilities have been demonstrated.
