Position Overview
Proactive, dependable, and friendly household assistant/nanny needed. Someone who can help manage the large house, has an eye for detail, is keen to keep the house tidy, organised, and presentable, and confident using their initiative. Your responsibilities will combine both housekeeping and nanny duties.
The family has been working with an experienced nanny/PA from Monday to Thursday. Your role will be to support her and help run the household. It's vital you are happy to take direction and work in a team. The family and nanny/PA have a strong relationship and great open communication; they are looking for someone happy to be part of the team.
The children attend school, daycare, and local activities. They are creative, chatty, active, and love being on the move. The nanny is responsible for the children; however, you will need to provide some support with childcare. The nanny/PA will work with you to create a manageable daily schedule.
Candidates need to enjoy both housekeeping and childcare.
The family are open to speaking with experienced and junior candidates. The focus is on finding the right fit.
Vital requirements
You must have an EU passport or a Dutch residence permit.
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday | 12 - 7 pm (35 hours) or 11 - 7 pm (40 hours).
If you are happy to start at 10 am on a Wednesday, that would be appreciated.
Some occasional flexibility would be appreciated.
Responsibilities and duties:
- You will be supported by the weekly cleaners, who will arrange cleaning of the home. You will need to do some cleaning tasks on the days they are not working, e.g., clean the toilet, etc
- Housekeeping, including making the beds, changing sheets (as needed)
- Helping with laundry and ironing (not all clothing)
- Dealing with the trash
- Taking down the seasonal decorations
- Help keep an inventory of household or child supplies
- Unpacking
- Having an eye for detail, e.g., if the washing machine, dishwasher, or dryer needs a new filter or something is broken, arrange for it to be fixed
- Water plants
- General tidying of all areas, including returning things to where they belong
- Vacuum or wipe the kitchen and dinner table area
- Open curtains and windows as needed
- Check breakfast supplies
- Organise cupboards if needed
- Preparing simple, healthy meals for the family and nanny (they all eat together, you are also welcome to join). They are keen to limit the children's sugar intake
- Helping out with the children as and when needed.
This role is approximately 70% housekeeping and 30% childcare.
Experience, qualifications, approach, and skills
- Minimum of three years of experience in similar roles
- Ideally, experience caring for children of similar ages. Being experienced with babies is a plus rather than a requirement
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a family team
- Value boundaries, routine, organisation, and structure
- Strong open communicator and receptive to feedback
- Capable of cycling a bakfiets or happy to learn
- Great problem-solving skills.
Additional Details
- English speaking, it's a plus if you also speak Dutch
- A love for animals is ideal, as they may get pets in the future
- The Mum will be on maternity leave for four months and at home on Mondays and Fridays. They have a nanny/PA four days a week, grandparents, and the Dad will be around. You must be friendly, open, and happy working in a busy household
- If you are open to travelling once a year, that would be appreciated (not required)
- It's ideal if you are living locally. If you need to relocate, the family is happy to discuss arranging accommodation
- Interviews and trials are happening ASAP
- The family will arrange employment.
Agency requirements:
- 3 years of full-time professional childcare experience
- Valid pediatric first aid
- A recent police check or DBS, and the DBS update system
- Written references and a minimum of 3 verbal references.
