Job Openings Tank Engineer

About the job Tank Engineer

  • Own the mechanical design and documentation for complex upstream oil and gas projects
  • Shape practical engineering solutions from concept and feasibility through to detailed delivery
  • Influence project quality, safety and performance across multidisciplinary teams

The Opportunity

Fyfe is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to deliver high-quality mechanical engineering solutions across our Energy & Resources business.

Reporting to the Mechanical Section Manager, you'll take ownership of the technical aspects of large and complex engineering projects. You'll prepare designs, documentation and specifications that meet client expectations, statutory requirements and recognised professional standards.

This is an opportunity to apply your technical capability across concept development, feasibility studies, FEED and detailed design. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, designers, drafters, clients and contractors, helping deliver safe, practical and commercially sound outcomes.

The Impact You'll Have

  • Deliver mechanical engineering drawings and designs for upstream oil and gas projects.
  • Shape projects from concept and feasibility through FEED, detailed design, documentation and approval.
  • Prepare and review engineering designs, plans, specifications, proposals, scopes of work and opinions of probable cost.
  • Strengthen technical quality by applying Australian Standards, ASME, ASTM and API codes, industry guides and recognised engineering practices.
  • Complete piping stress analysis, check isometrics and piping arrangements, and prepare equipment data sheets for pumps, valves, fittings and vessels.
  • Collaborate across process, structural and electrical and instrumentation disciplines to deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

What You'll Bring

You'll bring strong mechanical and facilities engineering capability, sound technical judgement and the confidence to manage specialist assignments of varying complexity with limited supervision.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering from a Washington Accord-accredited university.
  • Experience delivering mechanical engineering solutions for upstream oil and gas projects.
  • Strong knowledge of piping design codes and standards, including ASME, ASTM and API requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of pipe stress analysis, facilities engineering and the documentation required for brownfield upgrades.
  • Experience working across AS 2885, AS 1210, API 650 and API 579 requirements.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, planning and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing client requirements and deadlines.
  • Sound understanding of interdisciplinary design and checking workflows, particularly across process, structural and electrical and instrumentation teams.

It would be great if you also have CPEng, NER or RPEQ accreditation, or are well progressed towards registration. Experience preparing installation work packs, participating in HAZOPs and working in operating or construction environments will also be highly regarded.
