Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Advisor (HSEQ)

About the role

Our workforce comprises office- and field-based staff working at metropolitan and regional sites throughout Australia. As the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Advisor, you will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the organisations Integrated Management System (IMS).

This largely autonomous role requires extensive knowledge of Management Systems development and implementation, along with a pragmatic approach to their application. As the HSEQ Advisor, you will provide comprehensive support, guidance, and advice to the business, management team, and personnel through operational and administrative tasks, strategic initiatives, and projects. This role is mainly office-based, with some site visits for auditing and inspections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance Management: Ensure all work activities comply with relevant procedures, SafeWork Australia regulations, and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Risk Management: Lead the development and review of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Safety Environmental Analyses (JSEAs), and risk registers
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular site visits, safety observations, and internal audits to verify compliance and manage subcontractor performance
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into injuries, near misses, and environmental breaches using methodologies like ICAM to recommend corrective actions
  • Training & Induction: Deliver HSEQ inductions, coaching, and toolbox talks to promote a proactive safety and quality culture
  • Return to Work: Coordinate injury management and Return-to-Work programs in collaboration with stakeholders


Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (Diploma or Bachelors degree preferred)
  • 3–5 years in a similar role within high-risk industries like mining, construction, or engineering
  • Current Australian Drivers License and a Construction Induction OHS (White Card)
  • Proficiency with HSEQ reporting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards
  • Internal Auditor qualification
  • Incident/non-conformance investigation experience
  • Knowledge of the Lean Management principles and methodologies
  • Ability to lead HSE initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain robust safety practices
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator experience
  • Ability to travel interstate or to a site at short notice or as required
