About the role
As Ecology Lead, you'll sit at the intersection of technical leadership and business development. You'll lead the ecology team day-to-day while actively growing Fyfe's pipeline in Queensland – attending industry events, nurturing client relationships, and identifying new opportunities across the renewables sector and broader development industries
This is a rare opportunity to help grow Fyfe's ecology practice in Queensland, working across renewables and a range of other sectors.
You'll be responsible for:
Business development & growth
- Lead and grow Fyfe's ecology presence across Queensland, with a focus on the renewables sector
- Manage and create client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact
- Identify new opportunities and convert them into engagements
- Represent Fyfe at industry events, professional associations, and networking forums to grow our profile
Technical & operational
- Provide trusted ecological advice and quality oversight across the team's project portfolio
- Lead delivery of complex or high-profile projects, ensuring outputs meet and exceed client expectations
- Oversee risk identification and management across projects, keeping stakeholders well informed
Team leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of ecologists – supporting their development and career progression
- Contribute to team composition planning as the practice grows
- Drive continuous improvement in how we deliver projects
About you
- 8 + years' experience in ecology or environmental consulting
- Strong client relationship management skills; you're comfortable in the room with clients and genuinely enjoy that side of the work
- Experience leading or mentoring a team of technical staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and stakeholder engagement
- Demonstrated project management and commercial acumen
- Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field; postgraduate qualifications advantageous
- Relevant professional memberships (e.g. EIANZ) well regarded
