Fyfes Energy and Resources Group works with major exploration and distribution clients to deliver specialist oil and gas, mining, hydrogen and renewable energy projects across the country. These include upstream flowlines, leases, network gathering and distribution systems, major gas transmission pipelines, oil and gas above ground processing facilities, as well as maintenance and construction related work programs.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer with experience in transmission & distribution substation, your role will involve ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of projects by overseeing electrical design, construction interface and commissioning. You will collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure project timelines, milestones, and technical requirements are met.

The Opportunity:

Our Energy and Resources Division works with major energy developers, network service providers and solution providers to deliver energy projects across the country. These include:

  • Utility scale energy generating facilities (gas, hydrogen, solar, wind and BESS);
  • Transmission and Distribution Network Substations and switchyards;
  • Decarbonisation Projects, Studies, Initiatives and Strategies;

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the engagement with NSPs across Australia and the development of opportunities
  • Contributing to the electrical design process, focusing on planning, conceptual, and detailed designs for medium-complexity to large-scale transmission and distribution projects.
  • Performing technical calculations, developing technical documents, and creating procurement specifications.
  • Overseeing the development and compilation of project documents, coordinating with clients, partners, and internal teams.
  • Ensure the selection, construction, and installation of electrical equipment meet design and project specifications.
  • Managing the scoping, definition, specification, and tendering processes during the procurement phase.
  • Review of detailed design documents prepared by subcontractors and equipment suppliers for completeness and compliance to Australian Standards;
  • Actively participate and engage with clients and support the delivery of projects, where required;
  • If required, provide site-based support for projects across Australia (certain amount of travel may be required);

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have full working rights.
  • Demonstrated experience in a comparable technical field, preferably in transmission lines or similar projects.
  • Have undertaken design management work for an NSP in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in the primary, secondary and automation system design for substations on renewable and conventional utility scale power generation projects.
  • Possess sound understanding of Australian industry codes and standards in particular the National Electricity Rules (NER).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing.
  • Experience working within a team environment and managing autonomous tasks.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel interstate.
  • Previous experience working within a design team or in a similar engineering role.
