About the job Senior Estimator
What you will be doing:
- Assess the type of bid, client, and closing date of a bid to determine the prioritization of all bids based on clients' bid requirements.
- Analyze drawing, specifications, and other documentation, including work methods, quality control, type of contract, escalation clauses, and site conditions, to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
- When necessary, refer to previous projects of similar nature for cost comparison and previous experience on contracts for the owner.
- Include adequate cost escalation and overhead provisions in all bids and understand any geographic variables including cost and availability of labor, materials, and subcontractors.
- Document all assumptions used in estimates to facilitate review and revisions.
- Maintain and update the current estimating database that includes standard quantities and rates for labor, material, and equipment as well as productivity rates and learning curve factors.
- Estimate based on detailed take-offs from plans and specs to determine the quantity of material needed by calculating the width, length, depth, and density.
- Provide sub-trade scope sheets that demonstrate a thorough understanding of the scope for specific trades
- Prepare, issue, receive and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
- Coordinates with the client on all RFIs, changes in scope, questions, or clarifications regarding the work, during the bidding process.
- Acts as a resource to project management during the award/start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate including materials and methods of construction;
- Reviews budget and project profitability status and goals with supervision and project team as required. Seeks input on corrective measures to continuously improve the identification and accuracy of cost figures;
- Acts as a resource for project management by providing cost information and developing cost estimates for changes in the work, during different construction phases.
- Other Estimating duties as required.
What you will need:
- 6+ years of significant estimating and quantity take-off experience necessary to complete complex estimates and bids for commercial construction projects and lead estimating efforts with assigned staff.
- Exceptional accomplishments, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to complete large CM/GC projects and large, complex competitive bid projects
- Independent sales strengths for presentations and projects pursuits
- History of strong communication internally with Project Manager and Superintendent and externally with Owner, Architect/Engineer, and subcontractors
- Previous experience with projects in the Construction, Retail, shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, food service, breweries, coffee shops (Highly Preferred)
