This role is critical to FuntoNetworks growing Payments practice, serving a premier financial services client with major operations in Edison, NJ and Charlotte, NC. Both locations are strategic hubs for wholesale banking, wire transfer systems, and international payments. We are seeking a subject matter expert with deep domain knowledge of Fedwire, CHIPS, SWIFT, and ISO 20022 to lead business and technical analysis, requirements definition, and solution design for a large‑scale payments modernization program.

Location Requirements:

  • Edison, NJ: Must reside within reasonable daily commute to Middlesex County, NJ.
  • Charlotte, NC: Must reside within reasonable daily commute to Uptown / SouthPark.
  • Hybrid: 3 days onsite per week, 2 days remote.

We bring deep domain expertise in wire transfers, clearing and settlement, ISO 20022 migration, and real‑time payments. In this client‑dedicated role, you will act as a trusted advisor, bridging the gap between business strategy and technical implementation.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Payment SME with extensive experience in wholesale payments, wire transfers, and international messaging standards to lead strategic planning and roadmap definition for a major payments modernization initiative. You will conduct business and technical analysis for Fedwire, CHIPS, and SWIFT systems, define requirements, map processes, and design solutions. You will be the go‑to expert for ISO 20022, validation rules, exception handling, and platform rollouts. This role requires strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to produce high‑quality documentation (BRDs, FSDs, process maps, training materials).

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Define the modernization roadmap for legacy payment platforms; align with clients business goals and regulatory deadlines.
  • Business & Technical Analysis: Analyze existing Fedwire, CHIPS, and SWIFT messaging flows; identify gaps and opportunities for optimization.
  • Requirements Definition: Elicit and document business requirements, functional specifications, and non‑functional requirements (performance, security, availability).
  • Solution Design: Collaborate with architects and developers to design API‑driven, microservices‑based payment platforms.
  • ISO 20022 Expertise: Lead ISO 20022 migration efforts; define message mapping, validation rules, and exception handling workflows.
  • Platform Rollouts: Support QA, parallel runs, and production cutovers; coordinate with business operations and technology teams.
  • Stakeholder Management: Interface with business, operations, compliance, and technology stakeholders; facilitate workshops and review sessions.
  • Documentation: Produce clear, comprehensive BRDs, FSDs, process maps, use cases, and training materials.
  • Agile SDLC: Work within an Agile framework; participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and demos.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Experience: Minimum 12 years of experience in payments technology, with at least 8 years focused on wholesale payments, wire transfers, and international messaging.

Domain Expertise:

  • Fedwire: Deep understanding of Fedwire Funds Service, message formats (Fedwire 2010–2022), and business rules.
  • CHIPS: Extensive knowledge of CHIPS messaging, settlement, and participant procedures.
  • SWIFT: Expert in SWIFT MT and MX messages (MT 103, 202, 205, 910; MX pacs, camt, pain); familiarity with SWIFTNet, GPI, and FIN.
  • ISO 20022: Proven experience in ISO 20022 migration; understanding of message components, business process, and implementation guidelines.
  • Real‑Time Payments: Knowledge of RTP, FedNow, or similar instant payment schemes.
  • Payment Platforms: Experience with payment hubs, message transformation engines, and fraud detection systems.

Methodological Skills:

  • Business process modeling (BPMN, UML).
  • Requirements management (Jira, Confluence, IBM DOORS).
  • Agile / Scrum experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Collaborative, team‑oriented mindset.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and large groups.

Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or related field; Masters degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud‑native payment platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of fraud prevention and risk controls in payments.
  • Familiarity with NACHA rules, PCI DSS, and DFS 500 regulations.
  • Experience with AI/ML applications in payments (fraud detection, analytics).
  • Previous consulting or client‑facing advisory roles.
