ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior GRC Specialist - Cyber Security Consultant is responsible for delivering continual improvement in cyber security governance, risk, and compliance, as well as providing technical consulting services to major Australian Federal Government clients. This role involves developing cyber security policies and strategies and working with a highly skilled team to enhance the clients security posture.

*Open to permanent or contract role.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Conduct compliance assessments against whole-of-government and industry standards.
  • Create threat models tailored to the organizations context and in-scope systems.
  • Author and improve security policies and processes.
  • Assist in uplifting cyber security posture and awareness to protect systems and data.
  • Lead a team to deliver outcomes within scope, on time, and within budget.
  • Support automation of collection and collation services for cyber reporting.
  • Work with senior clients to meet privacy, security, compliance, and financial objectives through effective security processes.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Australian citizen with an AGSVA security clearance (minimum NV1).
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering cyber security outcomes across various projects.
  • Practical understanding of cyber security standards and frameworks (e.g., ISM, PSPF, Essential 8, NIST, ISO 27001/27002).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work effectively across different clients and team members.
  • Experience conducting risk and compliance activities in ICT fields.
  • Understanding of governance principles related to cyber security.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to self-manage time and deliver outcomes as part of a dynamic team.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in tender preparation and writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing high-performing multi-disciplinary cyber security teams and developing junior consultants.
  • Proven track record in business development and generating profitable new business.
  • MUST BE located in Canberra (ACT) or Melbourne (VIC).

The following experience will be highly regarded:

  • Familiarity with cyber board-level reporting and metrics.
  • Experience engaging with senior Federal Government stakeholders.
  • Practical experience with a broad range of security deliverables.
  • Understanding of technical concepts and experience supporting IT systems.
  • Consulting experience.
  • Network of contacts in the cyber security space.
