Role Overview
The Mobility & Integration System Engineer will provide specialist technical services to support Defence Mobility (DM) capabilities across OFFICIAL, PROTECTED and SECRET environments. The role focuses on Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) / Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms and associated mobile ICT (MICT) systems.
The successful candidates will deliver ongoing sustainment, system operations, integration support, testing, assurance, and technical advice in accordance with Defence ICT policies and service management processes, under Commonwealth oversight.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Sustainment and System Operations
- Provide ongoing maintenance, patching, and minor updates for mobile ICT (MICT) systems.
- Deliver Level 2–3 technical support including fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, resolution, and escalation in line with Defence ITSM processes.
- Administer and maintain mobile device security compliance, including device hardening, vetting, and onboarding.
- Support and maintain mobility system integration points (e.g. monitoring tools, certificate services, VPN dependencies) under Commonwealth direction.
- Conduct operational assurance activities to ensure system stability, security, and compliance with Defence ICT policy.
2. Application and Configuration Support
- Perform testing, vetting, and validation of mobile applications prior to release into Defence mobile environments.
- Implement configuration changes, minor capability enhancements, and validate operational readiness of MICT updates.
- Sign mobile application packages and support code-signing activities where required.
- Produce and maintain documentation for configuration changes, testing outcomes, and operational processes.
3. Development and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Maintain and support UAT environments, including configuration, updates, and execution of test activities.
- Conduct testing, validation, and operational evaluation of system changes, mobile applications, and minor improvements prior to production deployment.
4. Technical Advice and Project Support
- Provide accurate and timely technical advice to Defence Digital Mobility (DDM) and associated mobility-related projects.
- Support transition activities and assess proposed system improvements to ensure alignment with operational and security requirements.
- Respond to technical queries within two business days (or as agreed) using Defence-compliant advice.
5. Documentation and Assurance
- Prepare, update, and maintain detailed technical documentation including:
- Configuration records
- Test plans, reports, and validation artefacts
- Knowledge articles and work instructions
- Operational manuals and system interface documentation
- Known defect registers and remediation tracking
- Conduct quality assurance reviews on testing, configuration changes, and operational implementations.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, quick reference guides, and knowledge management artefacts.
6. Cloud-Hosted Mobility Support
- Administer and maintain Defence-approved cloud-hosted mobility tenancies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud-hosted service issues including outages, integration failures, and disaster recovery scenarios.
- Liaise with third-party vendors for incident escalation and resolution.
- Support cloud-based mobility initiatives including:
- Operational test and evaluation
- Management of external interfaces and data feeds
- System documentation and certification updates
- Software updates and backup management
- Security compliance monitoring
- Virtual machine configuration and inventory management
- Certificate management and renewal
7. Enabling and Coordination Functions
- Provide technical coordination across Defence Mobility sustainment activities.
- Support build, test, lifecycle management, continuous improvement, and decommissioning of in-service mobility systems under Commonwealth oversight.
- Engage stakeholders, customers, and end users to ensure mobility capabilities align with operational needs.
- Produce Commonwealth-directed documentation including:
- Solution overviews
- Build and installation instructions
- Configuration management artefacts
- Knowledge base articles
- Operational manuals
- Test documentation and defect tracking
Governance and Engagement
- Attend weekly meetings with key Defence stakeholders.
- Participate in support, build, and technical delivery meetings.
- Liaise regularly with DDG Infrastructure and Network service providers.
- Attend ad-hoc meetings with the Defence Mobility Program Manager as required.
Mandatory Requirements
- NV1 security clearance (current and transferable)
- Demonstrated experience supporting UEM/MDM or mobility systems in secure ICT environments
- Experience with Level 2–3 ICT support and system integration
- Strong documentation skills aligned with Commonwealth writing standards
- Ability to work under Commonwealth oversight in highly regulated environments
Desirable Experience
- Defence, Government, or highly secure enterprise ICT environments
- Mobile platform management (iOS, Android, secure mobility platforms)
- Cloud-hosted ICT environments supporting mobility solutions
- ITIL-aligned service management experience
