About the Role:
The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing all accounting activities related to project execution. As a Project Accounting, this role demands deep expertise in managing project costs, revenue recognition, and financial reporting specific to project accounting. The position will focus on ensuring that all project costs are tracked accurately and aligned with budget forecasts, using project management best practices, templates, and KPIs to ensure financial integrity and transparency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track and record project-specific costs, ensuring proper allocation to the appropriate accounts.
- Ensure that all project expenditures are aligned with the projects budget and financial plans.
- Monitor the financial status of projects and report on key metrics, including cost variance, cost performance index (CPI), and project profitability.
- Oversee and ensure proper recognition of revenue for all ongoing projects,based on contractual terms and completion milestones.
- Manage invoicing, payment tracking, and revenue recognition in line with project schedules and client agreements.
- Collaborate with the Financial Project Manager and other project teams to develop and manage project budgets and forecasts.
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial forecasts, ensuring that budget overruns or deviations are identified and addressed promptly.
- Perform internal audits of project accounting records to ensure adherence to company policies and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of all project-related financial transactions,including invoices, receipts, and contracts.
- Work with the financial manager and external auditors to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Utilize project accounting templates to standardize cost reporting, forecasting, and budget tracking across projects.
- Leverage project management software to track financial performance and ensure accurate financial data is available to all stakeholders.
- Report on key financial data related to project costs and ensure that project managers are kept informed of financial performance relative to the projects budget and timelines.
- Work closely with project Financial managers to ensure financial considerations re aligned with project timelines, deliverables, and milestones.
- Collaborate with the PMO team to ensure that project financials are accurately reported and aligned with project management routines such as those outlined in PMBOK.
- Support agile project environments by tracking project financials on a sprint basis, ensuring that financial data is updated in real-time to reflect evolving project scopes and costs.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in Project Accountant and Financial Analyst. Specifically focused on managing project budgets, costs, and financial reporting in a project driven environment.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Proven track record in project cost management and revenue recognition for large-scale projects.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software, project management tools, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of project financial management, including cost control, budget forecasting, and revenue recognition.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to reconcile complex project-related financial data.
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with project teams and senior management.
- Flexible to work across different time zones and to travel for business.
International experience with a background in working across different countries. - Native English, with two additional languages as a plus
- Proficient in Agile methodologies, including Scrum.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and effectively manage remote teams.
