Job Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and skilled Sample Coordinator / Prepress Operator to join our team. This hybrid role involves both prepress file preparation and hand-bound sample creation, ensuring the highest standards in print production. The ideal candidate will have experience in digital file preparation, plate-making, and sample assembly while maintaining strict quality control measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and adjust digital files (color, resolution, layout) to meet print specifications.
- Conduct preflight checks and troubleshoot file issues using industry-standard software (Adobe Creative Suite, PREPS, imposition software).
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve printing challenges and maintain quality standards.
- Generate printing plates using CTP technology and ensure proper plate quality.
- Maintain accurate records of job specifications and adjustments.
- Read and interpret press/bindery run sheets to create high-quality hand-bound samples.
- Collect materials and assemble samples using hand stitchers, inline stitchers, and a shrink wrapper.
- Inspect samples for print defects, color accuracy, and overall presentation.
- Enhance sample appearance by buffing, polishing, and refining finishing details.
- Collaborate with clients, customer service, and team members to ensure project success.
- Provide technical guidance on file preparation and printing best practices.
- Conduct routine maintenance on prepress and sample preparation equipment.
- Notify supervisors of equipment maintenance needs, quality concerns, and supply shortages.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Operate a pallet jack as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in the printing industry, including prepress, press, and/or bindery experience.
- Proficiency in industry-standard prepress software (Adobe Creative Suite, PREPS).
- Strong knowledge of printing processes and techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication, collaboration, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
