The purpose of this position:

Support environmental compliance and sustainability efforts within PTFI Smelter operations. Assist in implementing environmental programs and strategies, monitor and report on environmental performance and regulatory compliance, and support the development and execution of initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of PTFI Smelter operations processes.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position:

  1. Conduct environmental monitoring, collect data, and prepare reports on emissions, waste generation, and water usage, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  2. Assist in waste management programs, including waste reduction, recycling, and proper waste disposal methods, and monitor waste streams for compliance.
  3. Support emissions control efforts by assisting with the operation and maintenance of air pollution control equipment.
  4. Collect and analyze water samples, assess water quality, and assist in water management initiatives.
  5. Maintain databases and records of environmental data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track environmental performance.
  6. Work together with environmental teams and regulatory agencies to share data and guarantee that laws are being followed.
  7. Assist in the maintenance and calibration of environmental monitoring equipment and pollution control devices.
  8. Participate in environmental audits, assist in compliance assessments, and provide support for corrective actions.

  • Regulatory Complexity: Understand and adapt to the complexity of environmental regulations can be challenging due to frequent changes and evolving standards.
  • Data acuracy and reporting: Ensure data accuracy in environmental monitoring and reporting.
  • Emissions control: Support efforts to reduce emissions can be challenging due to the nature of the processes.
  • Resource Efficiency: Balancing the need for resource efficiency with compliance can present challenges, especially in resource-intensive operations.


The background, education, and work experience needed to succeed in this job are:

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related Natural Science (such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology, Forestry, Agriculture, Meteorology, Environmental/Natural Resource Management), or Mathematics/Computer Science including Accounting and Finance, or Business Management, or other Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience.
