Basic Function :

The Loading operations supervisor is responsible for assignment and coordination of work for an operating shift crew to ensure that concentrate loaded, hopper operation and Shiploader are operated in a safe and efficient manner. This position must have a thorough understanding of the all aspects of the loading operations process, equipment capabilities, and troubleshooting. The areas of responsibility include the concentrate barns, Hopper, Loader, conveyor, scale house, shiploader and sampling system.

Job Responsibility :

  1. Ensure safety standards are applied correctly and enforce policy, direct subordinates to do the same.
  2. Perform safety meeting as required and conduct weekly safety inspection. Document the inspection.
  3. Ensure Safety Accountability Program is up to date and follows all other Safety programs as required.
  4. Ensure all tasks have a current Job Safety Analysis.
  5. Responsible for the supervision of hopper/shiploader shift crew to ensure safe and optimum utilization of manpower and equipment to achieve the production targets.
  6. Ensure that concentrate loading is on schedule, spillage is minimized and work closely with the P&O loadmasters and DWP personnel.
  7. Ensure scale weight are calibrated after each Ship Loading complete.
  8. Ensures that the objectives are understood and followed by the shift personnel.
  9. Through leadership and by example, develops the operating crew focused on meeting d production targets, utilizing their operating skills.
  10. Identifies and recommends improvements to enhance plant performance, ensures safe standards are met or exceeded and reduce costs.
  11. Ensures that all materials required for routine operation on shift are available for efficient operation.
  12. Ensures operating logs, reports, time sheets, work orders and any other reports, which are required, are filled out accurately and promptly. Ensures the causes for any unusual occurences are investigated thoroughly and reported accurately.
  13. Ensures the personnel are trained efficiently such that abilities are enhanced.
  14. Ensures that the crew carries out their assigned duties with competence, maintains good housekeeping standards and observes all safety policies, practices and regulations.
  15. Monitors the absences and/or vacations of each crew member in a manner which is in compliance with the CLA and which also provides coverage in all essential areas to maintain efficient and effective operation of the plant.
  16. Is familiar with all Company policies, objectives and the CLA and administers them effectively and consistenly.
  17. Communicates to the Training Foreman all information at his disposal which will further their understanding of their jobs and the organization. Transfers to whom ever appropriate, concerns and ideas from the crew which are itended to improve the operation of the process. Ensures proper two-way communication is established and maintained between operators and maintenance crews.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned from time to time as dictated by the needs of the operation.

The key challenges in this position include:

  • Handle subordinates which have the lack of knowledge and skill, and quite stub burn. In this case, incumbent must be patient to train and coach them, and also have the strong character in applying the discipline.
  • Coordinate with other group or sections because of the limited time and the other group is busy with their job. Incumbent should have a persuasive skill.

The background, education, and work experience needed to succeed in this job are:

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Senior High School with 8 years experience in Ship loading process.
  • Or Bachelor (S1) in Mechanical program with 2 years experience in Shiploading process.

  • The Loading Operations department has and annual budget of approximately $350,000.
