Basic Function :

  • Perform and monitor support/service activities within Assay & Analytical Laboratory Dept in relation to all Freeport X-Ray Laboratory business operation ensuring such functions run effectively and efficiently.
  • Full the role of Professional Chemist Staff for all aspects ISO17025, ISO14001, and other environmental and safety audits and inspections as required to ensure the compliance with related standards.

Job Responsibility :

  1. Perform and monitor LIMS and Direct Charge orders of chemical/lab supply, to ensure availability thus avoiding upset to laboratory operation and that the expenditure is at or below designated budget.
  2. Monitor and review chemical/assay material usage and storage in lab operations and develop initiatives towards cost-savings, in order to reduce operating costs while maintaining optimum quality of analysis results.
  3. Administer and monitor time card and vacation record towards optimization of human resources utilization and minimization of overtime. Develop and monitor access control procedures and protocol to the MP74 QC Laboratory complex.
  4. Administer and monitor service requests and contract works towards cost saving while optimizing predictive maintenance of laboratory X-Ray instrumentations (XRF, XRD and X-Ray Online Analyzer) and maintaining good inter-laboratory QA/QC program.
  5. Supervising 3 different crew crew (9 Amdel Analyzer technicians) and 1 instrument technician
  6. Administer and monitor training matrix for all Amdel Analyzer personnel. Ensure that adequate notification is given to all employees of training requirements and schedules. Arrange training attendance as required.
  7. Administer and monitor time card and vacation record towards optimization of human resources utilization and minimization of overtime. Develop and monitor access control procedures and protocol to the MP74 QC Laboratory complex.
  8. Prepare and generate the monthly report and providing the comprehensive monthly trends of safety, environmental, people, cost, analytical quality and productivity to all member of Assay & Analytical Lab group.
  9. Administer and monitor environmental and chemical handling activities within Assay & Analytical Lab group, to ensure compliance to PTFI/EMS standards and policies, particularly in relation to waste disposal procedures. Develop and socialize changes and updates to work instructions as necessary.
  10. Administer and monitor training matrix for all Lab personnel. Ensure that adequate notification is given to all employees of training requirements and schedules. Arrange training attendance as required.
  11. Fulfill the requirements of the assigned safety accountability program, in order to ensure that all lab workers, lab procedures and lab environment comply with company safety policy.
  12. Complete assayer preliminary assessment program as one of the basis for development programs for Sampler and Assayer training to enhance employee performance, problem- solving abilities, and improve the career path of employees.
  13. Liaise with HR/IR Department to ensure that Lab personnel properly apply PTFI standards and policies, and to assist Assay & Analytical Lab management to proactively anticipate people issues within the Assay Lab Department.

The key challenges in this position include:

  • Develop more effective way of doing administrative works.
  • Chemical Coordinator role for Assay Lab Section; by leading the group in administrative and preparation works in regards of chemical safety and environmental programs, i.e., ISO17025, ISO14001
  • Employee's resistance to change to new or improved administration, environmental and chemical handling SOPs; the incumbent has to be able to explain technical background and advantages/improvement behind the change.

The background, education, & work experience needed to succeed in this job are:

Minimum Education and Experience :

  • S1 degree in Chemistry (Major in Chemistry, NOT Chemical Engineering) with at least minimum 2 years of working experience in Chemical analysis and Mining lab operations.
  • Max Age 30 years
  • Have experience working in Mineral Laboratory for at least 2 years
  • Have Training Certificate:
  • ISO:17025 training certificate
  • SAP Planner
  • Have Competency Certificate and have the ability:
    1. Operate X-Ray Online Analyzer
    2. XRD Mineralogy Analyst and operate XRD tool
    3. Use SAP program/software
    4. Use LIMS Labworks program
    5. Able to operate AAS (Flame AA) tool
    6. Able to operate ICP-OES tool
    7. Able to operate XRF tool
    8. Able to operate LECO tool
    9. Able to operate ICP-MS tool
    10. Able to operate ICP-AES tool
  • Able to speak English fluently, because they will communicate routinely every day with FCX Laboratory in Tucson and Safford Lab in Arizona, USA and also in work will routinely report and communicate using English
  • Have an understanding of chemical analysis, work safety and industrial hygiene in chemical laboratory
  • Preferred to have K3 training certificate including: LOTOTO, Hazard Communication, Working at Height, Confined Spaced
