Provide geotechnical recommendation and/or services to the PTFI U/G Mines by directing the design, support and monitoring of geotechnical aspects of U/G Mine facilities and operations to ensure safe and efficient operation of U/G Mines.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  1. Meet the PTFI Safety and Environmental Programs and standards.
  2. Inspect and analyze ground condition for any new development heading to ensure the recommended support design fit with the actual ground condition.
  3. Evaluate and modify ground support design for new development areas using GSST tools to ensure the lifetime stability of the opening.
  4. Analyze ground movement and damage progress as impact of induce stress or mining activity (blasting, caving, production, etc) to provide appropriate action plans, in order to ensure safety of the miners and also to achieve production target.
  5. Analyze seismic monitoring data to indicate ground response and seismic related hazards to ensure the safety of underground facilities, access and production areas.
  6. Inspect and monitor ground condition of DMLZ mine fix facilities (e.g. ore pass, loading point, crusher, vent raise, access, office and any mass excavation) and provide warning of unsafe condition and short/long term mitigation plan.
  7. Monitor displacement by conducting convergence measurement using geotechnical devices (e.g. tape or scanner) on any drift and working areas, particularly for complex and high-risk areas, to ensure safe and efficient operation of mine. Recommend re-support or rehabilitation as required.
  8. Conduct cave monitoring program such as TDR and open hole measurement and construction of cave shape by combining all monitoring data (including seismic, cave tracker and smart marker) to interpret cave propagation and material movement.
  9. Update database system for geotechnical data/information and reports/recommendation so the database is accessible and preservable.
  10. Prepare daily, weekly and monthly report for reviewing from senior engineers.
  11. Develop his skills and knowledge to go along with new technology and methods to improve the service to clients and cope with new project and case study in block cave mining.
  12. Develop skills of subordinates following their development plans.

The background, education, and work experience needed to succeed in this job are:

Minimum Education and Experience

  • S1 degree in Geology or Mining Engineering with minimum 2 years of experience in underground geotechnical.
  • S2 degree in Mining Engineering or Geotechnical with thesis related to underground geotechnical

Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Characters)

  • Have knowledge of basic theory of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering from university course work.
  • Be able to communicate with field people, lead subordinates, develop or train subordinates and must be energetic & willing to work in the field.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • English for both oral and written.
  • Computer, such as VULCAN, AUTOCAD, and Mining Software (Deswik, Voxler).
