Dynamics 365 Functional SME - Finance & Project Operations

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Dynamics 365 Functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) to manage and optimise the Finance and Project Operations modules within Microsoft Dynamics 365.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary functional expert for finance operations, project accounting and financial reporting processes. This role will also support the integration of Dynamics 365 with OneStream for group consolidation, financial reporting and management reporting.

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is essential, while experience with OneStream and enterprise financial integrations will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

1. Dynamics 365 Finance

• Lead the functional design, configuration and optimisation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Cash and Bank Management, and financial reporting.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, financial dimensions, posting profiles, tax configurations and legal entity setups.
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities, intercompany transactions and financial consolidation processes.
• Manage and optimise financial data integration between Dynamics 365 Finance and OneStream, including trial balance mapping, chart of accounts alignment and data reconciliation.
• Ensure accurate financial data is available for group consolidation, management reporting and statutory reporting.
• Support integrations with banking, treasury and expense management systems, including Kyriba and Concur.

2. Dynamics 365 Project Operations

• Manage the functional design and configuration of Dynamics 365 Project Operations and Project Management and Accounting modules.
• Configure and maintain project structures, contracts, budgets, costing, revenue recognition and billing processes.
• Support project cost allocation and tracking through timesheets, purchase orders and expense transactions.
• Collaborate with Finance teams to define project cost rates, categories and accounting structures.
• Design and optimise project procurement processes, including the allocation of bulk purchases across projects.
• Support Project Managers and Project Controllers with project profitability, work-in-progress (WIP), backlog and financial performance reporting.

3. System Implementation, Rollouts & Enhancements

• Act as the functional lead for Dynamics 365 implementations and rollouts across new business entities.
• Conduct fit-gap analysis, business requirement workshops, system configuration, data migration, user acceptance testing (UAT) and cutover activities.
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications and coordinate system enhancements with implementation partners.
• Review, validate and test system changes delivered by external vendors.
• Collaborate with Finance and Accounting CoE teams to maintain end-to-end financial reporting integrations across Dynamics 365, OneStream, Concur, Kyriba and related systems.
• Evaluate new Microsoft Dynamics 365 features and recommend enhancements that improve operational efficiency and business processes.

4. Functional Support, Security & Compliance

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 functional support for Dynamics 365 Finance and Project Operations.
• Troubleshoot functional issues and coordinate resolutions with managed service providers and Microsoft support teams.
• Design and maintain user security roles, permissions and duties in accordance with segregation-of-duties (SoD) requirements.
• Review and optimise Dynamics 365 user licensing to ensure cost efficiency and compliance.
• Maintain functional documentation, system configurations, standard operating procedures and user training materials.
• Provide guidance and training to business users on Dynamics 365 functionality and best practices.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on functional experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance or Microsoft Dynamics AX.
• Practical experience with Dynamics 365 Project Operations or Project Management and Accounting modules.
• Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and business processes, including: Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), Record-to-Report (R2R)
• Experience supporting multi-entity, multi-currency environments and country-specific localisations.
• Strong knowledge of Dynamics 365 functional configuration, security roles, duties and licensing requirements.
• Experience gathering business requirements, preparing functional specifications and supporting system implementations.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Finance, IT, business stakeholders and external implementation partners.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Experience with OneStream for financial consolidation, planning and reporting.
• Knowledge of Dynamics 365 Finance-to-OneStream integrations, including trial balance uploads, chart of accounts mapping, financial dimensions and group consolidation.
• Understanding of enterprise performance management (EPM) platforms and financial consolidation processes.
• Experience integrating Dynamics 365 with third-party systems, including Concur, Kyriba, HR platforms and timesheet applications.
• Experience participating in regional or global Dynamics 365 implementations and rollouts.
• Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant certification or equivalent.
