M11 - Backend Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking Backend Engineers to design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable backend applications, APIs, and integration services.

The successful candidates will be responsible for developing microservices, optimising databases, implementing data processing solutions, and ensuring application performance, security, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend applications and services.
• Build RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration components to support enterprise applications.
• Design and implement distributed systems and scalable backend architectures.
• Integrate backend services with upstream and downstream systems, devices, and data sources.
• Design, manage, and optimise relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
• Develop data processing, transformation, and analytics services.
• Implement application monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve backend application, integration, and performance issues.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, and secure coding practices.
• Support application testing, deployment, maintenance, and production operations.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
• Conduct peer code reviews and maintain technical documentation.
• Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Support technical knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Experience in backend software development and building enterprise-grade applications.
• Strong programming proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend integration services.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of database design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
• Experience with message queues, event-driven architectures, and system integration.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, distributed systems, and enterprise application architecture.
• Experience developing and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development methodologies.
• Understanding of authentication, authorisation, and secure coding practices.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
