Role Overview

As a UI/UX Designer, you will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and government stakeholders to shape digital experiences for both internal agency users and members of the public.

You will play a key role in:

  • Driving user-centred design decisions
  • Conducting user research and usability testing
  • Designing intuitive workflows and interfaces
  • Creating prototypes and validating concepts
  • Translating complex requirements into simple, effective user experiences

This role requires strong analytical thinking, excellent stakeholder management skills, and a passion for designing impactful public sector products.

Key Responsibilities

UX Research & Discovery

  • Conduct user research, interviews, workshops, and usability studies to understand user needs and pain points.
  • Gather and analyse qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design decisions.
  • Translate research findings into actionable recommendations.

Experience Design

  • Design user journeys, information architecture, workflows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces.
  • Develop intuitive, accessible, and scalable experiences for web-based applications and digital services.
  • Create prototypes to validate concepts and test solutions with users.

Product & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and government stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Facilitate design workshops and co-creation sessions.
  • Present design strategies, concepts, and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse user behaviour, feedback, and product performance metrics to identify opportunities for enhancement.
  • Iterate on designs based on research findings and product insights.
  • Advocate for design best practices and contribute to design standards across products.

What Success Looks Like

First Month

  • Gain a strong understanding of the product strategy and roadmap.
  • Assess the current UX maturity of the product.
  • Contribute design deliverables to ongoing sprint activities.

Within 3 Months

  • Gather requirements and collaborate with stakeholders and the Scrum team.
  • Design, prototype, test, and deliver at least one new product feature.

Within 6 Months

  • Lead user research initiatives to uncover growth opportunities and product improvements.
  • Drive enhancements in collaboration with designers, engineers, and product managers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of professional experience in UX, Interaction Design, Product Design, or related disciplines.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design processes and complex problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Miro.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and design validation activities.
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design methodologies and design thinking principles.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance user, business, and technical requirements while making informed design trade-offs.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum product development environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI-powered or AI-assisted user experiences.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG and inclusive design principles.
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies and implementation considerations.
  • Experience designing for large-scale enterprise or government digital products.
  • Knowledge of design systems and reusable design patterns.
