Position Summary
The Cath Lab Special Procedure Technologist II assists credentialed providers with diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within cardiac and vascular laboratory (CVL) environments. Working under direct provider supervision, this role rotates through scrub, monitor/recorder, and X-ray technician functions, delivering high-level technical support, patient care, and radiation safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Procedure Execution & Care: Rotate through 1) scrub, 2) monitor/recorder, and 3) X-ray technician roles. Prepare patients, maintain sterile fields using aseptic technique, and monitor hemodynamic activity and arrhythmias.
- Specialized Equipment & Instrumentation: Operate and troubleshoot IVUS, Site Rite, atherectomy devices, pacemakers/ICDs, PACS image retrieval, and recording devices.
- Patient Interventions: Administer intra-coronary/intra-arterial medications under direct physician supervision. Obtain arterial and venous access site hemostasis, perform sheath removal, and manage hemostatic devices.
- Point-of-Care & Emergency Response: Perform point-of-care testing (ACT, $O_2$ saturations, glucose, ABGs). Provide basic and advanced life support (including defibrillation) during critical events.
- Radiation Safety & Compliance: Perform quality assurance on X-ray equipment and protective gear, monitor radiation safety, troubleshoot technical issues, and support the Hospital Radiation Safety Officer with survey documentation.
- Operations & Logistics: Participate in the required on-call rotation with a maximum 30-minute response time. Conduct patient teaching, transport patients, and maintain clean, fully stocked work areas.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 12 continuous months of Cardiac Cath Lab, EP, Neuro IR, and/or Special Procedures experience within the last 3 years.
Education
- Successful completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
Licenses & Certifications
- At Hire:
- Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License (Oregon) OR Registered Radiologic Technologist (Washington).
- Radiologic Technologist Certification from ARRT.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) — must obtain within 1 month of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) — must obtain within 2 months of hire.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate — must obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Within 12 Months of Hire (at least one required):
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
- ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography — ARRT(VI)
- ARRT Cardiac Interventional Radiography — ARRT(CI)
Additional Skills & Operational Criteria
- Proof of continuing education to maintain registry.
- Demonstrated high-level competency working without direct supervision across scrub, monitor, and X-ray roles.
- Strong interpersonal communication and customer-focused service skills.
- Strict compliance with the 30-minute after-hours call-back requirement.
