Overview
We are seeking an Electrical & Controls Engineer II to support a large, complex manufacturing operation that runs 24/7. This role is focused heavily on controls engineering, automation reliability, and performance improvement rather than routine maintenance. The engineer will play a key role in both day-to-day plant support and longer-term capital and upgrade projects.
This position offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact on plant performance, safety, and automation capability while working closely with electricians, supervisors, and engineering leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead improvements that enhance electrical and controls system reliability and reduce unplanned downtime
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex PLC, HMI, VFD, and networked control system issues
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
- Independently manage full lifecycle engineering projects, including scope development, justification, execution, and closeout
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as schematics, specifications, cost estimates, and commissioning plans
- Coordinate and oversee vendors, contractors, and external engineering resources
- Support plant electrical safety initiatives and compliance with NFPA 70E and internal engineering standards
- Implement controls upgrades, including replacement of obsolete drives and control systems
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to electricians and junior technical staff
- Communicate project status, risks, and performance improvements to plant leadership
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
- Minimum 3 years of electrical/controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong hands-on experience with PLC, VFD, and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley preferred)
- Experience supporting continuous operations (24/7 manufacturing environments)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and project management skills
