The Role

The Tax Manager will be responsible for understanding the financial implications of transactions that comply with all tax regulations. Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state individual tax returns and work papers for high-net-worth individuals, multi-generational families, and other specialty areas of the firm.
  • Recognize the required information from client's tax documents and convert it into part of tax work papers.
  • Communicate with clients to acquire additional tax information and clarify the confusion.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual tax provision calculations to generate estimated amounts of deferred tax assets, deferred tax liabilities, and valuation allowances.

Education and Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
  • 1-year of experience in the field offered or related occupation.
  • Will accept a bachelor's degree and 3-years of experience in place of MS+1.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States full-time.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare federal tax forms and related schedules.
  • Prepare quarterly estimated federal and state income tax payments.
  • Prepare federal and state corporate, partnership, trust, and S-Corp tax returns and work papers.
  • Prepare foreign informational tax forms for both domestic and international clients.
  • Perform year-end tax planning for high-net-worth individuals and other specialty areas of the firm.
  • Generate resident and non-resident state tax forms and create reconciliation work papers.
  • Record adjusting journal entries (AJE) to adjust client-provided financials to the correct amounts.
  • Research on unfamiliar topics by utilizing third-party software, including Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, Bloomberg BNA, etc. Create memos to summarize research results and save them in the firm's system for future use.
  • Book tax journal entries to adjust the book balance to the tax balance reported on tax returns.
  • Conduct special projects as requested by the supervisor.
  • Accomplish objectives by supervising and coaching staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
  • Plan, monitor, and appraise job results.
  • Keep track of schedule by updating the firm-provided Excel spreadsheet and third-party scheduling software (XCM).
  • Participate in tax update seminars and read newsletters and articles.

Experience

  • Experience working with closely held companies, investment/private equity, professional services, distribution companies, and/or non-profit organizations is a plus.
  • Excellent business skills and appropriate industry knowledge
  • Keep current on applicable professional standards.
  • Strong skills and experience with Word, Outlook, Excel, QuickBooks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Improve skill in using tax software (Go System RS) and contact vendor to resolve any issues or bugs on the software.
  • Manage own schedule and job priorities and communicate status to manager.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of deadlines for different types of tax returns.
  • Keep abreast of current tax developments and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations.
  • Attend firm-provided CPE events covering various topics, including taxation, soft skills, computer software, etc.
  • Proficient with technology related to accounting and research software.
  • Strong project management, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Extremely detail-oriented.
