Position: Laser Application Engineer

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Develop a novel laser applications test plan based on customer demand and analyze the test results in our US Lab.

Complete relevant laser application test reports and visit customers regularly to provide feedback and exchange results 

Customer application training both at Coherent and at customer sites; development of initial customer applications parameters in factory and/or at customer site (on occasion). 

Responsibility for the day-to-day operation of Fremont Applications facilities, including equipment maintenance and upgrades 

Maintain and continue to pursue new Applications expertise for ultrafast laser and fiber lasers: publish of applications notes, perform product demonstrations, present at technical conferences.

Primary interface to sales team/customers answering applications related questions. Provide specifications for and be key participant in engineering projects for development of applications-based product accessories.

Education & Experience

Experience working with lasers, optics or material processing in a laboratory environment and a strong technical knowledge of industrial laser products 

Experience with brittle material laser processing, or welding of batteries or other e-mobility experience desired 

Bachelor in engineering or other related field is required + 5 yrs experience, Master or higher degree in material science or engineering is preferred 

Excellent reporting and presentation skills Laser application experience > 2 years 

Ability to travel in the US and world-wide: Expected Travel ~ 20%

Physical Requirements

Able to stand up to 8 hours per day.
