About the job Business Unit Manager
The Business Unit Manager is responsible for all aspects of production planning. This includes creating production schedules, determining appropriate delivery dates, and considering factors such as equipment, staffing, and raw material availability.
Essential Functions:
- Provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operations.
- Oversee all management aspects of production and warehouse staff.
- Resolve material and capacity issues to ensure on-time delivery.
- Plan and communicate daily, weekly, and monthly production requirements with the operations team to ensure efficient workflow.
- Monitor shortages, backlog, and inventory levels for assigned manufacturing areas to optimize delivery performance and minimize inventory investment.
- Ensure the technical competence of production staff through training, and maintain appropriate training records.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives as required.
- Maintain a clean and orderly production environment, adhering to documented procedures.
- Keep procedures updated as changes occur in processes.
- Analyze actual production labor hours against standard labor hours, and report discrepancies and trends as required.
- Ensure the production environment complies with all environmental and safety regulations.
- Participate in Health and Safety, GMP, and HACCP training as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Specifications:
- Experience in manufacturing, production management, and production planning processes.
- In-depth knowledge of forecasting, planning, production scheduling, and inventory management principles.
- Post-secondary education with 5+ years of manufacturing experience in a leadership position.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and time management skills.
**Job Qualifications:**
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a leadership/management role at a manufacturing facility.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) for data analysis and trend monitoring.
- Experience with continuous improvement/lean tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety policies.
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and coaching skills.
- Ability to motivate employees, assess, and develop their skills.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and listening skills.
- Adaptable and flexible in dynamic environments.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work with and lead teams in a collaborative environment.
- Highly motivated and results-oriented.
Physical Demands:
- May be required to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods.
- Engaging in bending, stooping, squatting, and ladder climbing may be necessary.
- Must be able to work in varying weather and temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and cold.
- May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 25 kg or 50 lbs).
