Swivel Marketing Limited , is a marketing and trade support company, specializing in making brands win at the last mile. Our playground for the last 18 years has been in Africa. In Uganda, Swivel has consistently supported brands to win at the last mile for the last 16 years, working for both multinational as well as local brands. Our experience spans in the Mobile telephony industries, FMCGs, Financial services, etc.

Swivel was recently awarded an aggregation dealership contract by a renowned Mobile Telephony company -MTN in Uganda to recruit new subscribers to its new-to-world Manda Mobile.

Having managed the brand in-trade for over a year, and working with our new-to-world field management system, we are convinced that the opportunity can only get bigger.

Its against this background that we are seeking a Commercial Manager to Captain this growth opportunity through leading the +500 field-based freelancers.

We seek a Captain to lead this team. This Captains (Commercial Managers) core role will be to build a great team to deliver on the agreed targets. He/She will be greatly supported by our field management application for real-time management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Execution:
    • Participate in the design and development of the overall Sales and Commercial Strategy.
    • Ensuring alignment of the goals and objectives of the business
    • Oversee and lead in the implementation to attain the set goals
    • Ensuring great relationships with the client as well as other strategic trade partners.
    • Develop and oversee the implementation of expansion plans as well as strategies to accelerate business growth.
  • Business Processes and Growth:
    • Continuously breaking down the business objectives for effective execution by the teams.
    • Identification of new business growth opportunities and efficiencies to grow the teams and in turn business performance.
    • Ensure the implementation and usage of the field management application across the teams for real-time decision-making and field support.
    • Developing insights and identifying new trends from the reports and thereafter making informed decisions. This will include developing forecasts to improve current as well as future growth.
  • Team Building & Management
    • Building a great and motivated team.
    • Provide leadership to direct reports, through meetings, accompaniment as well as through individual coaching.
    • Ensure that the team has both the capacity and capability to become the best of whom they are.
    • Ensure pipeline of growing leaders.
    • Oversee recruitment and retention of the sales team. This will include a constant pipeline of recruitment of teams for both expansion and replacement of those who fall out.
    • Champion a culture of performance and delivery; built on open and collaborative communication.
  • Performance Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day revenue generation and growth of other income streams such as from the shops and the addition of services for continued growth.
    • Using the field management performance application to continuously monitor the performance of sales and commercial activities along the set metrics
    • Analyze the business performance, along with the key performance indicators, and prepare reports to senior management on performance.
    • Leveraging market understanding through intelligence and data to give the team the best situational direction for performance.
    • Put in place route optimization.
  • Budget Management:
    • Lead in developing the sales and commercial budget annually with quarterly reviews.
    • Oversee and ensure the optimization of this budget to drive higher performance.
    • Put in place metrics for success on budget spends on activations.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Develop strong relationships both internally and externally
      • Internally: - with the different functions within the company including Sales Operations & Admin and Finance as well as the technical team
      • Externally: - With clients. This will include clarity and alignment on expectations and targets.
  • Shops Management:
    • Put in place a strategy to grow revenue from the shops.
    • Monitor the performance of the individual shops and put a corrective plan in place.
    • Identify new areas of growth and recommend the addition of new services.

Minimum Requirements & Key Skills

  • A bachelors degree
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in field team management, and large teams management will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in working with Field Sales Applications.
  • Experience in relationship management both up and down.
  • Experience in collaborative working and coordination of diverse teams.
  • Working knowledge of how to build business plans based on market research and analysis
  • Ability to manage various projects concurrently.
