Job Overview
Thurrock Council is seeking NLGV Driver Operatives to support the Clean & Green Services team with street cleansing operations.
The role will involve driving non-LGV vehicles, including vehicles under 3.5t GVW and small mechanical sweepers, alongside manual street cleansing duties across highways, parks, housing areas, footways and other public spaces.

This is an NLGV Driver Operative / Street Cleansing role.
Candidates must hold a Category B driving licence.
Candidates must be able to work outdoors, carry out physical duties and work Monday to Friday, 14:00 to 22:00.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive non-LGV vehicles
- Operate small sweepers
- Carry out street cleansing
- Complete litter picking
- Complete manual sweeping
- Remove fly-tipping
- Remove graffiti
- Remove fly-posting
- Empty litter bins
- Empty dog waste bins
- Remove weeds and leaves
- Use blowers and strimmers
- Complete vehicle checks
- Report defects
- Maintain records
- Use digital systems
- Follow safety procedures
- Work with cleansing teams
- Support public spaces maintenance
Essential Experience & Skills
- Category B licence

Additional Information
This role is based within Thurrock Council’s Clean & Green Services.
Working pattern is Monday to Friday, 14:00 to 22:00.
The role involves outdoor work, physical duties, driving duties and street cleansing tasks across the borough.
A Driving Licence is required.
Interview will be held on site.
Target interview date is 02 October 2026.
