About the Role
We're hiring a Pathology Assistant for a 90-day onsite contract assignment supporting a Pathology Laboratory in Athens, Georgia.
This role provides critical laboratory and pathology support focused on gross specimen preparation, anatomical dissection, autopsy assistance, specimen documentation, and pathology education under the supervision of pathologists and laboratory leadership.
The ideal candidate is ASCP-PA certified, highly detail-oriented, comfortable working with surgical and post-mortem specimens, and experienced in laboratory pathology environments requiring precision, professionalism, and strong technical expertise.

Compensation
- Pay Rate: $88.45/hour
What You'll Do
Gross Specimen Processing & Preparation
- Perform gross descriptions of surgical specimens
- Prepare surgical specimens for examination and analysis
- Perform dissection of surgical human tissue specimens
- Document specimen characteristics and findings accurately
- Organize, categorize, and preserve specimens properly
- Maintain specimen integrity throughout processing workflows
Autopsy Procedures
- Assist with preparations for post-mortem examinations
- Perform standard autopsy techniques under pathologist supervision
- Collect and prepare tissue samples for examination
- Document autopsy findings and observations
- Support complete autopsy procedures and specimen handling
Specimen & Tissue Management
- Obtain and process specimens for bio-specimen banking
- Support tissue storage and biorepository operations
- Maintain specimen chain-of-custody documentation
- Ensure proper specimen labeling and tracking procedures
Anatomical & Dissection Work
- Perform detailed gross dissection procedures
- Prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination
- Support anatomical specimen preparation and documentation
- Assist with anatomical photography and visual records
Education & Laboratory Training

Support training and educational activities for:
- Pathology students
- Residents
- Fellows
- Laboratory personnel
- Assist with anatomy and pathology instruction
- Demonstrate proper laboratory and pathology procedures
Research & Administrative Support
- Support pathology and laboratory research initiatives
- Assist with specimen collection and research documentation
- Maintain laboratory records and reporting
- Support departmental operational and administrative functions
Required Qualifications
Certifications & Licensure
- ASCP-PA Certification required
- Current medical laboratory certification or eligibility preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Pathology Assistant experience required
