Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant
Location: Greater Sacramento Area
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Receivable Management:
- Oversee the entire accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, reconciliations and billings.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging reports, identify overdue accounts.
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies, billing inquiries, and customer account issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate customer master data and billing information.
- Reconciliation and Reporting:
- Perform regular reconciliations of accounts receivable sub-ledger to the general ledger.
- Prepare and analyze accounts receivable aging reports, bad debt reserves, and other relevant financial statements.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes related to accounts receivable.
- Support audit requests by providing accurate documentation and explanations for accounts receivable balances.
- Process Improvement & Compliance:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the accounts receivable function.
- Develop and implement best practices for cash application, collections, and customer service.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant financial regulations, including adherence to GAAP and potentially GASB principles relevant to non-profit organizations.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Collaborate effectively with other departments (e.g., Membership, Professional Learning, Communications) to ensure accurate billing and resolution of customer issues.
- Provide support and training to junior accounting staff as needed.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounts receivable, with at least 2-3 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proven experience with large volume accounts receivable processing and collections.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Experience with non-profit accounting and/or governmental accounting (GASB) is a significant plus.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Great Plains, QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Experience in a membership-based organization is desirable.
